Pretty big dropoff in the Valley after 1-3, so far. Conference play is going to be interesting... someone's gotta make enough noise for the Valley to get a 4th team in a field of 24, right?

and the big fluff is overrated and will bow out again early

it's hard to win in the playoffs with no D, and it's been proven for several years

    Duly noted.

The problem may be, though, that the Big Fluffy doesn't always have ample opportunity to determine a true pecking order because of unbalanced conference play, allowing for the slaughter of such teams in the playoffs. I do see a bit of separation after 1-3, much like the Valley.

Sorry I can't grammar or English very well.

This was probably the toughest poll I've put together. Lots of teams I'm not that familiar with have big wins and there's been very little conference play. Some expected big hitters have only had cupcakes so it's hard to tell. I vote based on play to date, not what I think they'll do in the future. Close losses to good teams can still get you in, see SIU. I wanted to find a spot for Coastal Carolina but didn't know who to leave out. Hopefully next week cleans it up a little.

That unbalanced schedule drives me nuts, I can't imagine what a fan of one of the Big Sky feels. Check out this conference schedule for one of them: I'll post the team below the schedule.

    @ UC Davis
    vs North Dakota
    vs N Colorado
    @ N Arizona
    @ Southern Utah
    vs E Washington
    vs Portland St
    @ Weber St

This is Idaho State's schedule, and obviously they aren't going to do jack, but this just shows how an average team could win the Big Sky auto. An average team could win every one of those games except EWU, and finish 7-1 in conference play. EWU plays UM, MSU, and Poly. They lose 2 of those, and the other good teams beat each other, and there you go.

NDSU needs a big win this weekend to stop dropping in the Power Poll:

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...joins-rankings

    1. Alabama (2): One of the most storied programs on earth gave up the most total yards and most points in a win in its 119-history. Takeaway: Tide could win it all again.

    2. Oregon (3): The nation is going to have stay up later. Marcus Mariota is making a Heisman run himself. The Ducks are No. 2 in scoring and total offense after obliterating Tennessee.

3.Ohio State (1): Do we have a quarterback controversy in Columbus after another strong outing by Kenny Guiton in place of injured Braxton Miller?

    4. Stanford (4): A suddenly tasty Week 4 matchup with fortunate Sun Devils, who squeaked by Wisconsin.

    5. Clemson (5): Credibility Alert! Tigers face an ACC road test Thursday at upset-minded NC State.

    6. Texas A&M (8): In two career games, Johnny Incredible has torched Bama for 907 yards in total offense and accounted for seven touchdowns. If you're like me, you're hoping for a rematch. If you're not, let's step outside.

    7. Louisville (6): In rivalry game, Cards looked clunky for the first time this season against Kentucky.

    8. Florida State (7): Jameis Winston has thrown 45 passes and missed on only five. Gave Noles fans something to drool about in home opener vs. Nevada.

    9. LSU (9): Zach Football just doesn't seem to fit. Still, LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger continues to impress.

    10. UCLA (NR): Look who owns LA. A 28-0 run at Nebraska left the Fightin' Pelinis searching for answers.

    11. Georgia (10): Watching the SEC East world go bye. North Texas awaits next Saturday.

    12. Oklahoma (14): How did Trevor Knight ever get near the field? Blake Bell throws for 400 and four touchdowns against Tulsa. Notre Dame next in two weeks.

    13. Miami (12): Off this past week. Probably won't know much more about Canes until Oct. 5 against Georgia Tech. Savannah State and South Florida are next.

    14. Oklahoma State (13): 14. Oklahoma State (13): It could be worse. There could be six parts to the SI series. (Fifth in the series hits this week.)

    15. Michigan (11): The headline "Wolverines survive Akron" was not considered in any newsroom before Saturday's squeaker.

    16. South Carolina (15): Please keep it on the field, Spur Dog. Until recently, Coach Superior owned the state and The State. Continued petty nonsense with journalists overshadows Connor Shaw's three TDs vs. Vanderbilt.

    17. Northwestern (16): Let's stop kidding ourselves. Pat Fitzgerald would fit perfectly at either USC or Texas.

    18. North Dakota State (17): Over/under on 'Fargo' references this week on Gameday?

    19. Florida (19): Remember when a Florida-Tennessee contest used to mean something?

    20. Ole Miss (22): Since we're discussing potential Mack Brown replacements, what about Hugh Freeze at Texas?

    21. Washington (21): Kiss the ring of Bishop Sankey. Two-hundred plus against Illini.

    22. UCF (NR): Mentor beats student as George O'Leary knocks off Bill O'Brien and Penn State.

    23. Baylor (24): Since we're discussing potential Mack Brown replacements, what about Art Briles at Texas?

    24. Arizona State (25): Still checking to make sure Sun Devils actually won in freaky late Saturday ending.

    25. Wisconsin (18): Spike the ball on that play, Joel. Spike the ball, then kick the field goal!
