looks like 30 second shot clock will happen
Not a favorable rule for NDSU's style but let's see how Richman adjusts.
I think this is good for college basketball. I don't want a 24 second like NBA.
Rules that should be changed/implemented
1. Reduce shot clock to 30
Looks like this is likely in the upcoming meetings this month. It worked very well in the NIT.
2. Fix timeouts
I see this being addressed either for 2016 or 2017. Could come up with numerous ideas. 5 is too much, plus hate all the media timeouts. I read there may be a proposal to make timeouts taken within 30 seconds of the next media timeout will automatically become the media timeout.
3. Official Reviews
They take too long and sometimes get the call wrong anyways. Create a designated replay official in a separate location (like the NBA and MLB), where they can review it immediately and not on a tiny monitor.
4. Jump Balls
I say this every year. Get rid of the alternating possession arrow. Make the players earn it with a jump ball like the NBA.
Agree with the first three, however no. 4 poses a problem for me. If they eliminated the A P in college basketball......fine, no problem.... but in HS bb, particularly girls' bb, that would be a terrible move. I remember the 25 jumpballs per game back in the mid 70's in ND when girls' bb started. Yes, the girls' are better now and let's say they cut the number of jump balls in half.......still too many and the game would drag.
AP will never change in HS...they've suggested it several times and length of game always comes back to a unanimous no. There aren't a large number in the college game so it wouldn't be terrible.
As far as number 3...I think the number the get correct or fix is far worth the wait. Its the games that go to review for every other OOB play that stink.
Rule changes....
NDSU to the FBS always. In all ways.
Big changes coming this season. With games coming up here are some of the rules that were passed in June:
1. Shot Clock from 35 to 30
2. Timeouts reduced from 5 to 4. Can carry over only 3 to 2nd half.
3. Restricted arc extended from 3 to 4 feet.
4. 5 second rule while dribbling ELIMINATED
5. 6 foul limit in postseason play other than NCAA Tourney
6. Shot clock violations on made baskets can be reviewed throughout whole game
7. Teams get one free throw (Prev. 2 FT) for delay of game or hanging on rim technical
8. Dunking allowed in warmups
9. Strictly enforcing hand check rules that were implemented two seasons ago.
10. Removing coaches ability to call live-ball timeout.
11. Timeout called within 30 seconds of next media timeout becomes the media timeout.
12. 10 second count does not reset after a timeout
Im still trying to clarify the "new" illegal screen rule. Not sure if there's a new rule or they're emphasizing it more.

Some of those are great changes, some of them aren't that big of a deal. But some of them I just have to ask WHY?? 4, 5, 8, and 10 I just don't understand the rationale for those. #4 we're going to penalize a team for playing good defense now? Looks like this is a change to make the game more like the NBA, which I don't want to happen. #5 I don't understand why you play with one set of rules and then change them DURING the season. #8 Most teams do it anyways and the refs don't enforce it so i guess that's why. #10 is just stupid to me. Also #9 I'll believe it when I see it especially during March. During Nov and Dec. we'll see it all the time, but I'd be shocked if we do during March.
