I'd invite them to the Summit ASAP for all other sports.
It's not official yet, but later today New Mexico State is expected to announce that they will be joining the Sun Belt for football only.

Nmsu to big west for basketball? I could see that. And nmsu and southern Utah are not comparable. They are similar to Denver and would boost our conference rpi

Big Sky or Big West (non football) is way more likely than Summit. Both are way closer than Summit Schools.

The only way for NDSU to become relevant while in this crappy conference is to dominate this crappy conference. We MUST separate ourselves from those we are currently associated with to be taken seriously nationally and by other conferences. This is exactly how VCU, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, and Creighton have built their programs. They separated themselves from others in their current/previous conferences by outspending on coaches, facilities, and recruiting; marketing the hell out of their product with their fans and boosters; and by having success on the court. Separating ourselves is exactly why adding UND is a terrible idea. We will only fall into basketball oblivion if our plan is to attach ourselves to bottom-dwelling programs for the sake of so-called "security". This is not what we have done with football... Why the hell would we make this mistake with basketball?
