Very few teams have proven much at all at this point in the season so there's still a lot of previous year bias at this point. I think it's just as dangerous to give a team too much credit for one solid win as it is to punish a team because they haven't beaten anyone yet. To me, NDSU and SHSU are still the top 2 teams in the country. SHSU was very impressive against Baylor, the score was not indicative of how well they played. If Youngstown is able to beat UNI this weekend, they would probably jump up above everyone in my poll.
I have been looking and will go back and look again, but I give way more credit to schools that play FCS schools vs Top tier D2 schools, but in most cases the D2 schools that are played are average at best. The one team that has supprised me is Citadel. I also think that the schools that have played 2 FBS schools need more credit, Northern Iowa has either prepared themselves for an interesting run, or a rough season. I will be very interested in that Youngstown/UNI game as that Pitt team has played jeckel and hyde and I'm very interested to see if UNI can go to a place where YSU plays well and come away with a win as UNI has proven they can go into hostile environments and win, even though Wisconsin has had a rocky season to the point, and Iowa isn't great. But to that point I wasn't terribly impressed with our performance against CSU in the 4th Quarter...I kept thinking we need another score to put the game away and we really struggled to do that.
Well, that's just it. There has yet to be enough proving ground to vote them as #2 in my book. They dominated (as they should have) an average-at-best D2 team and hung in there with a top 30 (Sagarin Ratings) FBS team for the first half, then lost it due to lack of depth (I think). Baylor did what they are "supposed" to do as an FBS team and simply outlasted SHSU. Overall I think SHSU's offense is still great, but their defense is not as good as it was last year. We will see come time they play some FCS teams that actually give a challenge.
I for one watched the entire SHSU vs Baylor game, looking at the score is wrong, they have a good team will be in contention, their problem isn't with talent I believe Fritz as a coach let them down in that game by not making his adjustments. Until they get challenged by a crap team I will still think they are legit
I don't know the sampling but am glad to see UND get votes, I for 1 did not but if they beat Sac St this week will give them a 25 position, just need to see them play and win against the conference Mates, but glad thi isn't a green and gold koto laid contest
