Default Far Accross the Plains of ND

Tonight the correct version was sung at the pep rally lead by a group of former players. The crowd loved it. Mike Fairburn(sp) came up to me after and said ---he loved that version but they made them clean it up when he played and would let them sing it that way. I told him---we werent politically correct back then and we certainly dont give a damn if we arent politically correct now.

There are many deviations. The version I am familar with is actually titled "on the plains"... of north dakota standing there for all to see....

PL has changed his mind then, here is a direct quote from him in June of this year:

"When I was there it was "call it university" and yes it is supposed to be "plains of Fargo"

I have not changed my mind. I have always sang it ---Far across the plains of Fargo. The post I was responding to was saying "across the plains of ND" I believe.

    Nice try.

Here is the version I learned (started school in 2004)

On the plains of North Dakota standing there for all to see,
Is an old abandoned outhouse and they call it UND.
Hail the Bison, hail the bison, with their tails up in the air.
University, University, you can kiss what's under there!

This version combines "UND" and "university" to both show homage to tradition and clear up confusion between university (und) and state (ndsu) for those minds that may have lost one too many brain cells at Chub's (killdeerbison?). Any way you sing it, I think the message is fairly clear

By the way, fun fact: I got two of the program managers at my job to sing the above version on a microphone to the whole facility after I got back from Frisco. The third program manager is an avid UND fan. He chose to sit that one out.
