I guess they both made their millions swindling people out of their money. In that aspect Ralph might be a little cleaner only because you kinda gotta expect a casino to take you to the cleaners, and credit card company isn't so frontal about it.
If I remember correctly, he did announce that he was donating $35M for the new U of M stadium and then pulled back his donation when they told him he couldn't get naming rights for life with it. I think in the end he still ended up giving $6M or so.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Think some people are confused, Denny Sanford isn't donating the money, Sanford Medical is who took Denny Sanford's name after he donated $470 million to them a few years ago. So blame Sanford medical for wanting to put their name on everything not Denny (although guessing he probably enjoys it too).

Full disclosure: Altru is a non-profit. I have the same concerns about them as Sanford that I've previously discussed.

Altru Health System has pledged a $10 million gift to the University of North Dakota through the UND Foundation in support of a sports medicine partnership between Altru and UND. According to UND President Robert Kelley, $9 million will serve as the leadership gift for a new UND Athletics Complex, an indoor practice and competition facility on campus.
"This is an important first step toward building a world-class sports medicine program," Kelley said. "When completed, the indoor training facility will include space for academic and clinical studies on human performance and conditioning, which will greatly enhance the University's and Altru's roles in sports medicine." The remaining $1 million is directed to support the replacement of the football turf at the Alerus Center.

I think it's wonderful in this day and age and under the present state of the overall economy that there are some out there who are giving back to their communities in whatever shape or form. We are all in this together. The more we give to each other, the better the world will be in the long run. Perhaps some tax laws should be adjusted accordingly to reward those who give accordingly. It seems to me there is way too much of a gap between those who have and those who haven't.

I have seen plans out for budget bids on USD's new basketball arena... preliminary seat count is nearly 6,000. (5987 if I remember right?) adding some club seating with window views into Dakota Dome. Club seating for bball, two bball practice courts, along with main arena, locker rooms obviously, weights area, PT area with classrooms for PT, ticket office and AD, bball, and vball offices along with PT offices. Mortensen is the company seeking out bids. Did they raise the rest of their $30 million?

Also on that note, plans have been put in motion for UND's indoor practice facility.

With that note... I've seen nothing for true plans (other than Architectural Renderings) for the BSA....

The SD Legislature gave USD the green light to bond over $22 million to get started. I believe the USD Foundation has raised or pledged the remaining amount so they can get started on construction.

For the life of me I don't understand why the State of ND won't make an investment in its universities. They are sitting on pile of money with more to come and they can't throw NDSU a bone to complete the fundraising drive for the BSA (a 30-year asset for the State and the University). SDSU also received the legislature's blessing to move forward with their indoor practice facility. Big facility upgrades for the two SD schools.

Our legislature still thinks it is 1930. Plus some of them are too busying trying to give out handouts to oil companies when we should be investing in ND's future.

They should just shell that $20 million in to Vermillion. The town needs an entire upgrade.
Sioux SUCK! It just has a nice ring to it.
