Strictly Theoretical, but . . .

If you took NDSU & UND, and combined both into a Single University w/ 2 campuses, we'll call it "North Dakota University" . . . Where would that university fit nationally? Let's assume our combined university "NDU" had the following:

32,000 students
$30-40 Million DI Athletic budget w/ FBS football
12,000 seat hockey arena GF campus
50,000 seat football arena for FBS football - Fargo campus
15,000 seat basketball arena Fargo campus
22 sports split between both campuses
Combined endowments & research dollars
Combined Academics of both Campuses
Combined Alumni

Would NDU fit into . . . MWC? MAC? Big XII? B1G? Where would NDU fit, would we have enough for the Big XII or B1G to take a look? Would you support a combined NDU team with the same passion as you support the Bison today. Would you become a hockey fans if the team became part of "our" university? With UND going through it new nickname and rebranding, is now the time to consider something like this to take the state to a new level? Discuss . . .

This idea has many positive aspects and would include numerous synergies but I don't think it is politically doable primarily because of the inability of the alumni of both universities to accept and allow it to be persued.

I'm not looking for your synergy opinions, as much as I was trying to understand where that university would fit nationally, and if the Big XII or B1G would be looking harder at NDU.

I know we wouldn't be among the largest but we would be an attractive addition to a number of conferences that were looking for another member. Big 12 may give us a look but there is a reason nebraska left them. Hard to say if the big 10 would be open to us.
