    Default Bison Football--the 1970's

Ok. This was obviously inspired by the 1991-2003 thread. It got me thinking that the young-un's going to NDSU right now probably know as much about Bison football in the 90's (when I was in school) as I do about the 70's. It seems like the players and teams from the 60's and 80's are pretty well-documented, but I don't really know much at all about the players and teams from the 70's. Anybody have any stories or a year-by-year breakdown about some of those teams/players?

I have some info...but the real answer is 73...as in PL. I'll just say this. The early 70s were about Erhardt & his masterful coaching...which built the program...the period in the mid-70s that PL could teach us all about...and then the arrival of Jim Wacker & the veer. There's a ton to talk about. Wish I had some vids. Maybe roadwarrior to add some of his insights.

Funds can be deposited in my MF Global account 503-08-0909. Wait are bank accounts supposed to have dashes?

Ummm, yeah, about that. It's really hard to put a firm dollar amount on inspirational ideas such as yours, so you'll probably have to settle with a big 'ol atta boy.

Are these attendance figures? If so, I don't understand how they kept track of these numbers back in the 70s.

I went to a lot of these games. These teams were fun to watch, and mostly very good. Once Erhardt left it took some doing to rebuild things. Wacker came and lit a fire with his tremendous enthusiasm. He brought the veer and set the table for the 80s. I could be wrong about this...but I have a memory of hearing that Wacker left because he thought that NDSU would never have the talent to win a national championship...or so he said. Did he go to TCU?

In the 70's the offensive line took on the nickname Rams and it is still used today

It had to be after 73.More than likely after Kjelbertson left(fired) which would have been after 75.

Earhardt left after 72 and went to the Patriots.
