Worst part about this is it gives the FBS or bust folks solid ammunition of how NDSU is starting to backslide into the NCC.

Not just any ammo, it would place the firing mechanism in and arm a nuclear bomb.

They would never get into the MVFC in football and if they did, the results would be worse than in basketball. They would make Indiana State and Missouri State look good while making the conference significantly weaker. They flat out dont have the facilities or the resources to upgrade them. Their best path would be to go Pioneer. At least the money saved on scholarships would cover the travel expenses. They averaged 3600 a game for football. Their biggest source of revenue would be NDSU and SDSU fans taking over their football stadium. They would need another 15 million just to have a D1 quality stadium and it would still rank near the bottom with Indiana State. Right now road games would be like road trips to Brookings before they renovated their stadium except 10k less seats. Think about this. The SDSU stadium cost 65 million with 2/3 bonded. Their IPF cost around 30 million. The new Augustana stadium cost around 10 million back in 2007. The Fargodome video boards cost about 7 million.

For Augustana, it would be like NDSU or SDSU competing with the Big 12 facilities.

Increase from 30 some scholarships to the full 62 plus all the other sports. Big bucks. Then the competition is all offering FCOA. Let's say they offer full cost of attendance. Were talking a million dollars a year just for that in their budget. 5 million per year in a budget increase will cover just that. Coaching salaries lag so if they dont double them, all their coaches will get pouched.

Could they do it? Yes. Is it likely? No. Even if Sanford throws 20 million at them, their facilities are still at the bottom. Good luck trying to compete with the Youngstown States and UNIs of the world when you will be 25 years behind your peer Dakota schools

Their best path to success is to go Pioneer in football and throw all their resources at Basketball

Heres my 5 year outlook prediction. All of 2011-present will be for not in 5 years when NDSU's home schedule is Augie/USD/UND/SCSU/ISUR/WIU

the only other FCS heavy hitter, JMU, will probably have moved on by then. NDSU will be winning title # 11 out of 12 and we're all getting ready for the same old season in 2023.

a couple of under achieving has beens that have 1 runner up trophy combined in the last 20 years? I think you can set the bar a little higher than that, gabe. You can say that about 99% of FCS. its NDSU and then the rest. if Augie gets a few FBS transfers to fall into their hands & pull off a miracle like USD did in beating NDSU, then they can make just as much noise as the Yotes have a few years after the transition. Honestly, wtf have YSU and UNI done?

It's as simple as this, would Augustana be able to make, or even contemplate, a move to D1 if the 4 Dakota schools did not exist and they would be on their own? Because that's the point of view you need to have when making these types of big decisions, "can we do this on our own?"

When NDSU and SDSU moved to D1 they did it on their own, together, but still on their own. Had to create their own "conference" with the Great West and make their way through a transition on their own.

Next, USD and UND moved to D1. Both of those schools had to do it on their own in a Great West vacated by the XDSU's. The UXDs and XDSUs didn't even really play each other in the major sports right away. USD and UND were in a truly national conference in the Great West with teams from all over the country in NJIT, Houston Baptist, and the Cali schools. Could Augustana transition to D1, all on their own, and play in a national conference like the old Great West? Could Augustana get an invite to a conference like the Big Sky like USD and UND did, and UND joined?

The only way they make it is by leeching on the Dakota schools. This move would be 100% dependent on the Dakota 4 and the SLT in their backyard. They will come into the conference as parasites and leech off the rest of us the entire time they are in the conference because they will never be able to stand on their own.

Uh, Youngstown made the National Championship game 2 years ago and have won 5. UNI is the program we had to overtake to start our run and by normal standards, they are a pretty impressive team. Despite our delusional expectations, they are successful programs.

USD is light years ahead of Augustana and they were even when they were D2. Augustana should set their sites on teams like Missouri State and Indiana State. It's more realistic. They would beat one of the 4 Dakota schools like every few years when they were D2 and everything was so called equal.

And USD knocking us off on a last second field goal isn't really that big of a deal, especially when our QB plays 3 quarters with a broken hand. We always lose at least 1 game a year. And USD does have a 20 million dollar athletic budget.

Id bet USD and UND would not be in the MVFC if it were not for NDSU and SDSU leading the way and showing that Schools in ND and SD could do it. Hell without the blueprint laid forth by Land grants UND and USD would still be DII, so to say you guys "did it on your own" is a bit misleading. NDSU and SDSU truly Did do it on their own
