I am not sure of their Title IX situation but if they have to add women's hockey, any and all men's hockey revenue are gone. I think they should go for it as a DII school but doing that and going DI at the same time will be a complete disaster for them. Even Omaha established their hockey program first before moving and they don't have the ball and chain that is women's hockey.
NDSU to the FBS always. In all ways.

Does Augustana receive Federal funding? If so, then they would have to abide to Title IX compliancy.

Just don't add women's hockey. Go with women's lacrosse instead. Growing sport. Growing numbers of recruits in the area. Cheaper.

I don't hockey as a great money maker in Sioux Falls. It's not like the Stampede is going to disappear and Augie would lose mens basketball revenue.

The Stampede is basically high school kids looking for a college team. They can't really compete with D1 Hockey. If they can average over 6K for a bunch of 16-20 year olds, college hockey would kill it. If you look at USHL markets, I don't think any or many of them have D1 hockey teams, but I could be wrong. I don't think they would lose basketball revenue. We're talking D2 vs D1 basketball which is a whole different world and level of excitement. They would certainly schedule around it and hockey is kind of a different crowd altogether.

Omaha is also one of the best drawing teams in college hockey and the USHL. UNO averages 6 to 6500. The USHL team is around 3000. That's a pretty huge market for no pro teams.

FYI, KWSN published a summary of the situation yesterday here:

    http://kwsn.com/news/articles/2018/j...sharper-focus/

They promoted this on Twitter as a summary, but completely ignored the subject of football which I feel it a bit irresponsible if it is truly a summary. Great example of the Sioux Falls media bias in reporting. IMHO, they are doing a disservice to their readers if they don't make clear Augie would need to either drop football, or go non-scholorship. Further, I think they need to educate the public that non-scholorship D1 football is a lower level than where they are currently playing and they'd get to play powerhouses like Drake, and still have to spend a fortune on travel. They do that, it would have been a good summary.

It is crazy comical. I can't figure out why Kelby has hitched himself to this train; hell, he's clearly driving it. He certainly has an ego (have to to make it in that job), but folks are naive if they think he doesn't have an angle, and I can't figure out what it is.

Meanwhile, you have Augie alumni who appear to be taking this all at face value (not asking hard questions of the clearly biased media) and not grasping the gulf between a college with enrollment <2000 compared to state funded, land grants like NDSU/SDSU and why we'd be skeptical about funding. It is nuttier than us joining the B1G!
