Even with similar geography, I think NMSU is a totally different case and would be welcomed with open arms.
Not that GCU is anything great but they appear to be an up and comer and support their bball at least, NMSU has a pipe dream of the MWC which I highly doubt UNM would allow, they are seen as the same level as Idaho which they truly are. Indy FBS is going to hurt their finances imo

NMSU needs to come to terms with reality - that they are not an FBS program and do not have a path to become one.

Once they do that the Summit or more likely the Big Sky become a natural fit.

This is from October but MSU Denver is looking to move up to D1. They don't have football but have many sports we need like softball and baseball. They would give Denver a travel partner too. Maybe having 2 Colorado teams would entice Northern Colorado and balance out the geography which is way too Dakota focused

They appear to have had some success in D2. According to Wikipedia

Since 1998, Metro State has captured 32 regular season conference titles, 35 conference tournament championships, as well as the 2000 & 2002 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Championships and the 2004 and 2006 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer national crowns. Metro State also boasts five individual national championships. Men's swimmer Darwin Strickland won national championships in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle in 1995 and also won the 100 free in 1996. Anthony Luna won men's track championships in the 800 meters during the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2009.[

DU might not like a Metro add, I doubt they look at that positively.

Why? They would simply go to the WAC. They get a travel partner and an extra bus trip game per year too

If we're looking at Augustana, why not Metro Denver?

DU would probably take Augie over Metro by a landslide, same with UMKC.

DU doesn't want anything to do with elevating that program.
NDSU to the FBS always. In all ways.

If they want to keep them down, bring them to the Summit. The WAC is so bad, they could find themselves dancing much easier.

As long as GCU, NMSU, Utah Valley are there...the WAC has some pretty good basketball. Better at the top than the Summit.

Some people might not like hearing this but the Summit has turned into a very mediocre mid-major league. The league is filled with mediocre coaching and Douple's idea of a great expansion target is a school that will make the league weaker because it puts too many mouths into the same location.
