Default Bison at Iowa State Classic

The men's and women's teams competed at Iowa State this weekend.

I hope people realize exactly how good these teams are. Christine Bruins (Schmaltz) and Brittany (Gigstead) Schanandore each ran the second and fifth fastest times in school history in the 800 meters today (2:07.14 and 2:07.83, respectively).

The only person to run faster than Bruins was Laura Hermanson, an NCAA Division I runner-up. Third to Bruins in school history is Kinsey Coles, a Division II national champion.

Saturday the women ran the second fastest 4x400m time in school history. Right behind the 2002 squad which were DII national champs.

Whitney Carlson might be the best women's track and field athlete NDSU has ever seen. She holds the long jump school record ahead of Amanda Thieschafer, who is a DII national triple jump champion.

The women's team would have had multiple national champions and possible national championship teams the last five years at the Division II level. Well done Coach Godfrey.

For the men Travis Fitzke ran 4:06.94 in the mile and Eric Stroh ran 1:51.46 in the 800m. That is flying indoors!

Two weeks until the Summit League Championships at the BSA. I predict a clean sweep by the Bison.

Really impressed by the 800 crew at NDSU.

    Just repeating:

Christine Schmaltz's way because she ran a 2:07.1
Brittany Schanandore (Mandan connection!) ran a 2:07.

Having tons of good middle distance runners use to be invaluable in the NCC days since there was the 500, 800, 1000, and 1500 along with the 4 x 800. It's still important with the DMR, 800, and the mile, but I miss all of those redundant events I guess.

    I can't wait for conference!

    Wow.....Indoors even!

You would think that Fitzke could run a sub 4 minute mile outdoors this year in good weather conditions.

    And 1:51 for the 800 indoors....wow!

We have some very good track athletes here at NDSU.

Those are fast times! No doubt about it. But it was on a 300 meter track, so expecting these guys to run these times at the BSA may not be real fair. They may come close and I am sure that they are still looking to PR at conference. I forget what the conversion is but in order to qualify for nationals they actually add time onto your performance.
