It's why the NFL does have to be diligent about other people using the term Super Bowl without their permission. Mr. Shafer did say they are looking for other ways they can "use" the logo to keep the trademark. I hope they are talking to trademark attorneys that have experience with this because I'm sure there are plenty of examples.
All true. BUT, what they did here was all about DRAMA. They definitely didn't have to use the logos on shirts and hoodies and they certainly didn't have to allow them to be so "in your face". If they had to include a logo on clothing, a small embroidered logo on a polo shirt would suffice. It's a pretty good way to undermine the new nickname that you just adopted. Hmmm....

    What a joke.
Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."
Scrooge-"Are there no prisons?". "Plenty of prisons..."
Scrooge-"And the Union workhouses." . "Are they still in operation?". "Both very busy, sir..."
"Those who are badly off must go there."
"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."
Scrooge- "If they would rather die," "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

What I don't understand why it has to be clothing and not some nick nack. And they are behind the curve as usual---they have had plenty of time to figure out other ways they could use the logo and protect the trademark.
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
