Yes the young people are all lazy fucks who hate football. Meanwhile the old farts have all the money and influence it would take to make this happen and yet here we sit. So maybe blame someone a little closer to home for not having a new gladiator palace to be entertained in.

Arlette is foolish, but the world is very different than it was in the late 80's / early 90's. The term "stadium rock" no long exists. The dome is the perfect size, actually. Big enough for a 25K seat show and small enough for a 4K seat show. Big enough for football, rodeo's, monster trucks and all that shit

Looking ahead, the city needs large convention space and a smaller facility, closer to the size of the Denny Sanford in Sioux Falls, who gets ten times as many concerts as the Fargodome gets. It's got all the amenities and is perfect for the summit league basketball tournament, concerts, arena football, hockey

NDSU needs a separate stadium of 35K seats indoors. It won't get used as much as the Fargodome but that's why NDSU needs to help pay for it

I'm actually the opposite of Arlette and think we need 3 stadiums
    1) Fargodome (remains profitable and a huge asset without NDSU)
    2) NDSU 35K seat indoor stadium, costs shared with NDSU for construction and management
    3) Another facility similar to the Denny with convention space

I want whats best for NDSU and Fargo. If NDSU wants a 35k seat indoor stadium, I would support it. But NDSU needs to put money towards it because it's going to be expensive AF unless we half ass it and put together an ugly functional mediocre project that people will bitch about. It's really no different than Gene Taylor trying to raise money for the basketball arena attached to the Fargodome.

Speaking of basketball, the SHAC still sucks and we need to solve that too.

What if we don't move to the FBS and never need a 35K seat stadium? Will an outdoor stadium work for the FBS when your last home game might be in late November? It could still be cold enough to keep many of the current attendees home or not buy season tickets.
It's OK to not be OK.

I would love outdoor football for 2 months... but come November fuck that. Tailgate for 5 hours then spend 3 hours in an ice box. I could handle it but no way casual fans do it.

Being indoors in the Fargodome is a recruiting advantage. It's just a great loud atmosphere. You build an outdoor stadium, you have recruits visit in November when it's cold AF and the stadium only has 10K people and it's not that loud, the perception is we are just like any mediocre MAC program. Now take the Fargodome atmosphere with an extra 15K seats and we will blow recruits minds. Gotta think big.

Much lower cost to build and maintain an outdoor stadium obviously. But an open air stadium would have virtually no other use for 7 or 8 months out of the year, so they city would never get involved with a limited economic impact.

For the city to get involved, it would depend on what a 35K seat indoor stadium could attract to town? If they think they can land 3 giant ass concerts a year that are too big for the Fargodome, then it's a no brainer. Maybe they could, who knows. How many concerts does Minneapolis get per year that draw 40-50K? And the ones they get, would we be excluded because we're not a tier 1 market? You do a 3/4 house show in a 35K seat stadium, it's not that much bigger than the Fargodome at full capacity

Could this be the restarting of the talk of the tear down the old and build a new $ 55 million on that location
for 2500 seats that was on the radar before Covid.

The footprint isn't nearly big enough for the existing dome, much less parking for 35k.
