I don't think we need help. UND just build an awesome facility for 13 million the total project will cost 19 million but will include stuff like coaches offices and training.

All we need is the actual indoor facility with practice lockers. We already have a new weight room, indoor track, and academics center in the SHAC. We could build a hell of an IPF for 15 million. Just leave some space for future expansion. I'd like to see on on N University where the current grass fields sit.

Is there any place in the F-M with that kind of floor space today?

    Steiger maybe? West Acres?

the 4 indoor fields and 8 indoor courts mentioned are almost 10 acres all by themselves.

I think it would be great for the city. For the winter months, people need things to do. I really like the Pentagon they built in Sioux Falls and the place they are building in Watford City is amazing. Fargo is kind of falling behind. I'm all for it. Would make the community impressive

4x the size of the Pentagon, at least. 2x the Pentagon + tennis center + fieldhouse. And that's without an ice sheet.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I'm just trying to wrap my head around the size of the facility.

Economy of scale/duplication of services and all that, but is a single, massive facility really better than three or five smaller facilities spread throughout the city? Maybe do what WF did with a couple elementary schools: design one and then repeat the same design a couple times.

Yeah then you gotta figure out where it goes too. I think the city should look at a Big time water park too. Kids love that stuff and the lack of pools for the cold months is pretty big

I'd think that the better solution would be group smaller facilities by purpose. The 4x soccer/lacrosse/turf fields would be the largest by far, and may need to be two or moreseparate buildings but hopefully right next to each other. Typically there will be tournaments, games, practices, etc that could be held at one location and not require the staff/coaches/parents/teams/players to be traveling across the city. Add in the different HVAC requirements for each use (doubtful basketball and tennis players could survive in the same temps as lacrosse/soccer) and the separate complexes per use seems to make the most sense.

I'm surprised this area doesn't have an indoor water park and even more surprised WF decided not to add one in that rec center they recently built...An indoor water park would be packed in the winter months...Dickinson and Williston have really nice ones.
