Don't forget about high school games as well. A couple of softball games a few practices before we had the bubble etc.

Don't know how the field turf guys figured life expectancy either. All I've heard is 10 years.

Wrestling mats put on top of turf for the tourneys. Fan days are held on the turf.

The turf they use for football games isn't the turf they have out there for when we (USA Wrestling) run the Junior Nationals in Fargo. They use the older turf. BTW, did that older turf ever had issues with its lines while it aged?

No it is so stiff it would probably last 100 years. I remember walking on it and it felt like I was walking on a sponge. It blows my mind teams used to actually play on that stuff and it is so ugly

Yours and the ND HS state wrestling tourney use the rolls of the old turf, I call it the scotchbrite turf. The Rumble on the Red wrestling tourney that takes places after Xmas generally uses the current turf, as it’s usually out for football right before Xmas anyways.

Not sure if the old stuff ever had issues, but it was a lot lighter and a simpler design so maybe it faired better? Aside from having the texture of a pot scrubber that is...

As a suggestion, there are spots in the end zone of the dome where you can't see the full scoreboard or the corner boards either. It would be super nice if NDSU could show the time, score, down and distance (maybe?) on the TV's that are on the back of the big scoreboards so we could see how much times left in the game.

The dome's governing board unanimously approved on Tuesday, Oct. 26, replacing the AstroTurf with an updated version that General Manager Rob Sobolik said is an advanced product that also has a "stronger backing and should hold its shape better."
The cost for the 80,000 square feet of synthetic turf and installation is $913,209 with funds coming from the dome's surplus account.
Adding to the cost of the project are some adjustments that will be needed to the mechanical system that rolls out the "Magic Carpet System" lengthwise on the dome's floor bringing the total to about $1.1 million.
Sobolik said the surface of the current turf is still in good shape, but the underneath has "reached the end of its life."

June and July.
The turf system is different than some others in the Missouri Valley Conference indoor stadiums. The turfs at the University of Northern Iowa and University of South Dakota are put in horizontally in separate pieces.
Sobolik said the Fargodome system can be installed much quicker in as little as 27 minutes.
He said no decision has been made about what to do with the existing turf when it's removed. The contract said if the Fargodome has no use for it "AstroTurf, in keeping with our environmentally friendly initiative, requests the right to reuse, resell or recycle" the turf.
The turf has an eight-year guarantee.

Sobolik said it was important to replace the field as North Dakota State football is one of its major tenants.
The turf is also used by high school teams in the North Dakota state football championships called the Dakota Bowl and by western Minnesota teams in their playoff games as the weather starts to turn colder.
Those events are planned this year for the coming few weeks.
Meanwhile, Sobolik said events are picking up as they have had something going on every weekend since Labor Day, including the return of NDSU games, although attendance has been below most recent years.
"We are on the road to recovery," he said about the finances and attendance at events, but said they weren't there yet as monthly reports still are showing deficits compared to the planned budget because of canceled events especially the major "superstar" concerts.
"We are so, so, so far ahead of where we were in May, though," he added. "It's only been positive."

Give that existing turf to Fargo Parks so they can put it outside of the future SW Fargo Sports Arena

And the dome will be fine. They have a bigger surplus than they did 2 years ago and the Shuddered Venues Grant and insurance covered all cost plus more. Their budged loss is a based on the Elton John concert being budgeted for and that gives them an annual surplus in a covid era. 2022 already has shows on the books, like Elton John.

Every row above z has a blocked view of the main screens. Often advertisements are shown on the backside instead of replays and game information. Pretty much sucks
