It's Bison Game Day!
NDSU's Week 5 matchup pits the Bison against the Leathernecks of Western Illinois, a team which thus far has established itself as one of the highest-caliber offenses in FCS, racking up 162 points in four games for an average of 40.5 PPG. QB Matt Barr's return has brought WIU around from a 1-10 campaign last season to currently sit at 3-1 with a loss to Big Ten Purdue.
Critics of the Leathernecks have brought up their rather weak schedule with wins over Sam Houston St., Indiana St. and Valparaiso. Despite this, their offense has looked near-effortless and their defense has been stingy.
NDSU fans are hesitantly optimistic despite this, having converted believers with a dominant performance against South Dakota after holding the Coyotes to 16 two weeks after that team scored 41 at Minnesota, and look to do the same to the Leathernecks. Key to the matchup will be the establishment of the offense early on to give the defense a chance to stop the offense of WIU and to go into halftime with a lead. The passing attack needs to continue to develop and the rushing attack needs to be solid to keep WIU's unique defense off-guard.
DJKyRo's Official Prediction: 35-20. Go Bison!
