Default NDSU and UND Start New Rivalry

"Really what it is is starting a new rivalry. We are not renewing the old rivalry,” Hinterstocker said, “because it has been so long since we played each other. I wasn’t here then and I don’t know how it felt and neither do any of our current players. It is really exciting, because we haven’t had an instate rivalry for a while.”

Misguided youth. They will get in the gym, feel the energy, and any misconceptions on who NDSU's "true" rival is will go away. I feel bad for these players.

At TM luncheon today said (after Hinterstocks bit about not having the rivalry with UND in the past that he was excited about actually having an instate rival even though the cuennt players dont really know about it)
That even though they dont know about the rivalry now they would after tonight!!!!! There was almost a collective "you betcha" agreement from from those in attendance.

    It is an interesting situation.

Number of combined players who have played in an NDSU/UND game: 0
Number of head coaches that have participated in an NDSU/UND game: 0
Number of assistant coaches that have participated in an NDSU/UND game: 0?

I have a feeling the only people for whom this game is a big deal is the fans.

But I am a little scared about this game. We don't seem to be quite as good as last year, and UND has really stepped up their program. We've played three common opponents and had almost identical results. We lost to Drake in four sets, they lost in five. That's the only difference. I would be surprised if either team swept the other tonight. I do expect it to go to five sets, and I'd only put the Bison as small favorites.

And if you can pry yourself away from tailgating for an hour, please try to make the match versus SDSU on Saturday at 2pm. That match will have real implications.

Well you obviously don't know crap about volley, hammersmith!

No kidding. The first two sets were very close(mainly thanks to NDSU spotting UND early points). But that last set was a runaway. NDSU tightened up their game and UND started to fall apart. But it easily could've gone to 4 or 5 sets with a few bounces of the ball. NDSU is the better squad, but it's not by that much.

I only saw the third game... that was a dominating display by NDSU.

BTW, trivia time: The series is 77-11 but what I haven't heard mentioned is that the series started out with the two schools splitting the first 20 games (between 1966 and 1976.) That means that NDSU has won every match since 1976 except 1 and that the series record for the last 34 years stands at NDSU 67 - UND 1.

That said, UND is much, much improved and could be a nice addition to the Summit assuming the hockey guys don't stage a coup over the nickname and screw over every other team in their athletic department.

Oh, and band, your trumpets sucked. Sorry, but that was not your A-game. I did laugh when Sig missed the cutoff.

I'll agree there. It was an interesting night for them.

And nice to meet you, Hammer.
