I beg to differ. When ever I talk to people about NDSU they always comment on the fact they had heard about our football team. Not once has anyone said that we play a good brand of basketball up there. When I mention that we had been to the dance I would get the deer in the headlights look. There was one time when I mentioned the dance and one guy said---oh thats right--when was that?
Now if you are talking about attention from the NDSU family then I agree. Nation wide? Not so much.

Agree completely. 344, you are taking a bit of a beating, but I don't know how far off you are. Football is king at NDSU...but I believe that the other sports do get more support than they do at other similar institutions.

The men's basketball team going to the dance was the most national exposure any NDSU team has ever gotten. But that was just kind of a one time deal, you need consistent success to build on that and we have dropped the ball when it comes to doing that. That said, Football can't really match it unless they pull an App State and beat a ranked school like Michigan was.

That said UND is in the same boat with hockey, except I don't think they can do anything to draw a lot of exposure on a national level. People just don't really care about hockey in general and college hockey is even more of a niche thing.

Was the game shown on national TV or was it a regional NCAA game? The reason I ask is I dont think I could get the game here.

Most exposure...but easily forgotten...except for those regionally...therefore I would say football has gotten the most attention.

That is where UND and NDSU are very different. UND is a nationally followed school, NDSU a regionally followed school.

I am just glad that we have multiple sports with DI accomplishments to argue about.

I believe all the games were on just CBS(unless you had Direct TV), so there was no game on in all markets.

Totally agree. And for the record, I have gotten a lot of "Fighting Sioux hockey right?" down here when I tell them I'm from North Dakota so it is a nationally followed school BUT that's only by hockey fans. So I think 344 is right in a sense, football will get the majority of support and if other teams are winning, they will get support. (And I'm talking about casual fans, not Bisonville posters)

Had not stooped to SS.com in years, and for some reason went over there today. Her is a gem from none other than DaveK in between pizza runs:

"And, for what it's worth, the case could be made that Bison fans in the '80s (and Sioux fans in 2001) enjoyed experiences at the D2 level that they'll never see in I-AA. I-AA isn't a bad level of play, and while it is technically a step up from D2 it just seems rather bland compared to the old NCC. Watching the Sioux take on the likes of Cal Davis and Southern Utah the past couple of seasons just didn't do for me what the old matchups vs. UNC and UNO used to."
