Default As much as I hate to cheer for UNI...

...I have to this afternoon. Ben Jacobsen, my hometown May-Port kid with ties to the great Shanley athletic tradition, has done something really special at UNI.

I'll predict that Ben is headed for one of the elite basketball programs very soon. If he should coach UNI to the Sweet 16, he gone. Big money for Ben.

Congratulations Ben...no matter what happens...and yes...I cheered for you and that great UND basketball team in the 90s.

It'd be really sweet to see the rockshalk crowd go home early. They have my vote for the most obnoxious fans to ever visit here. UNI would rank near the top...but oh well.

If you wore the uniform...you're a champion.

I'll root for their basketball team because I like how they play - their football program can still go eat PL's sausage.

Looks like UNI has an answer to Aldrich...which we didn't have. With a big-body at 7' last year...we would have taken Kansas out in the first round.

Not to mention one that can hit 3's. Speaking of which, Faroukmanesh is red-hot with 3 of them already. That guy has just unreal range.

Kansas just has no answer for Faroukmanesh right now, he's knocking down 3's when they're open and already showed he can drive the baseline if it's open. I hope Kurt Alexander can bring some fire like that to the table.

I'm all in for UNI as well, I don't care if it blows up my bracket, I just like how they play basketball. It gives me hope the Bison can make a run someday because they do a lot with what seems like under the radar regional recruits.
NDSU to the FBS always. In all ways.

    Great addition to the discussion.

Question for you Shanley old-timers & fans:

Ben's dad played basketball for Shanley. They won the state once or twice...right? Anyone got some history on the Jacobsen connection at Shanley?

May-Port hired Ben's dad to be principal, and the young boys were just entering middle & high school. Hmmm Mayville State hired Jim LeClair to coach football in that same general time period. There were some incredible bloodlines that made up those dominant May-Port basketball teams. But Chuck Klabo was a native farm boy, I think from Portland. A couple of Rygg and Strand kids were involved also...two legendary athletic families in May-Port...as well as a kid from Finley whose dad got a job at Mayville State. 6' 10" (can't recall the name). Some call those teams the best 'ever' in the history of Class B basketball...some say the best no matter what class. The 1997 team was a monster team, with the younger Jacobsen at the helm. Klabo, LeClair, and two others at about 6' 10". And they weren't just big, by any stretch (pun). Incredible athleticism & size...with a Jacobsen at point. It was a once in a millenium team for a school like May-Port.

    There's my May-Port history.

Could somebody help out with the Jacobsen Shanley history?

If you wore the uniform...you're a champion.

Man, how many brackets is this going to eff up if they win? More importantly, who cares? This is what's great about the NCAA tournament!

    Man do I love March.
