    Default LOI's for Women's Track & Field

This is an early signing period for track, so it's not nearly the big deal football is. But Ryun added 4 throwers and a distance runner yesterday. They all look like solid performers, participating in the state meet as sophomores. All of the throwers have PRs around 40 feet in the shot, but Drevlow throws the javelin as well. When recruiting women for track, it is very easy to tell if they can compete at the college level right away since all of the implements (shot, javelin, discus) are identical in weight to the college implements. This is not the case for men. Hurdle heights are also the same, but not for the men. So you can just plug their performances into the Summit League Championship results and have a good idea if they can contribute.

I think we all know that recruiting is not as easy as just plugging in numbers to an equation to see if a girl is going to have a major impact on the team. Think about how many girls don't do as well in college as they do in high school, or have a great first year and terrible years after that...or look at how many girls made huge strides in their years as Bison. College is a big adjustment for all athletes, and can end in success or failure - it's just up to the girl how badly they want it to end in success.

The only point that I wanted to make was that since the shot, discus, javelin, and hurdle heights for women are the same at the high school level than they are at the college level. So you actually CAN plug in numbers to see if they would be able to place in the Summit with their performances they had in high school.

Drevlow must be the younger sister of Ryan Drevlow, FR 6-3 1/2, 239 Fr. DE
