Who thought this defense was going to improve? We maybe thought Breske would be a decent DC, but it's hard to improve on losing NFL players in the last 2 years. I don't give a shit if people think the Montana job is a step up if we are winning with our defense, which obviously we haven't. I wasn't arguing that our defense was good last year, I was just saying it doesn't matter WTF anyone else THINKS if we win.

As FCS level goes, I guess I'd have to agree that it may be a lateral move financially but a better job due to Griz's recent history of success.

Breske's not from Montana but maybe he just liked it enough to move back? Who knows?

I've spent a lot of time in both Missoula and Fargo and Missoula is definitely a more expensive place to live.

I've only been inside the FargoDome 2-3 times but never been to a Bison home football game. Always tend to visit my aunt in June-August instead of November....wonder why that is? I hope some day to remedy that, though. I enjoyed the short time I lived in Fargo and enjoy my yearly trips back.

I've been to one game at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula and admit it is a beautiful setting/facility. Fan support is great and it is loud enough that it often results in false-start penalties or unnecessary time outs on the away team. But their locker room, training facilities, meeting rooms and study hall facilities aren't even the nicest in the Big Sky conference, much less all of FCS, according to an old post I read over at egriz.com. Too lazy at the moment to look up the link, though, so peruse egriz.com posts from a few weeks back for more details.

Good luck, Bison. I still say adding you guys and SDSU to the Big Sky conference would have made the conference a LOT stronger but I understand why that didn't happen from NDSU admin's point of view (long travel, sports offered not matching up, etc).

DC at Montana is better for Breske than DC at NDSU coming off a year where everything he tried at NDSU turned to *!@$, and every fan is on his $#%. If he had the same year last year at Montana, then DC at NDSU would be a better job for him (if you get my drift).

Wanted to wish Coach and his family well. I was just told he accepted the position and it should be announced later today or tomorrow.

Agree, but respectfully request a rephrase. That's an output device only, buddy.

Nice, classy post. I appreciate your insight. From my understanding, we wanted into the Big Sky...Big-Time. The rules were changed prior to the conference vote...a strange set of circumstances & timing, to say the least. The new requirement was to have a 100 percent 'thumbs-up.' I would have loved the Big Sky...all-sport...Montana (the state) connection. There is a strong history of a good rivalry with MSU and UM. Too bad. Somebody in a position of power in the Big Sky wanted no part of North Dakota State and its great football tradition. NDSU & Montana squared off twice in the Camelia Bowl in California during Ron Erhardt's tenure at NDSU. We thumped them both times...winning the national championship vote in DII at least one of those years. 2003's game in Missoula probably didn't do us any favors in terms of being welcome...LOL

Good luck to Coach Breske. In my experience, you can be the right person for the job at the wrong time...or other combinations of not fitting into the plans. Breske has proven himself. This just didn't work out, for whatever reason.

I've been to Missoula for a couple of games. I think that the stadium is a model for what an FCS stadium could be. I'd trade for that and a couple of mountains & trees...but not the cities. Missoula is a nice town, but a little too far away from other things, for my taste.
