Default Best team in the history of NDSU Football

I mentioned in another thread how I thought that this years team has a chance to arguably be the best in team history. Now, I know this year's team is 0-0 and hasn't accomplished anything this year yet. I thought it may be fun to see what people thought on this subject. Obviously comparing DII teams to DI teams may be unbalanced, but throw that out the window and just compare player positions between teams and throw in some stats to help justify your argument. Maybe even rank your top 5 teams. This should be an interresting debate.

Lets be honest with ourselves...were the d2 players back in the 80s being discussed as being able to take down big schools from big conferences? I know a lot of old timers on here like to think that there really isn't a distinct difference between this years teams and the dynasties from the 80s...on paper, this SHOULD be the best NDSU team ever if recent history is any indication...especially if they take down KState...something Im quite sure no NDSU team from the 80s could do.

    Yes, they were.

Since only the old timers remember and experienced such things, guess they'd be the ones to remember.

Im not an old timer but the teams of 65-68- and 69 had scholarship levels similar to what we have now and back then they played in the college division which was the 2nd highest level of competition back then. It waswill before 1aa, d2, and D3. We competed againt teams like Montana, Youngstown, and many teams who are now FBS

I've seen historical power rankings that put one of the NDSU 1960's teams higher than any subsequent teams - one higher than the '86 team. They were both pretty high up there (around 30th, I believe.)

Kinda depends on how you are doing your comparisons: 1965 Bison vs 2013 Bison or 1965 Bison versus every other college football team in 1965, for example.

Likely best team ever given the previous two in a row championships and going for 3 peat. So given that, what does everyone think attendance could have been for some of the bigger home games this year, such as UNI, SDSU and playoff games, if the Fargodome was bigger? 25,000, 28,000, over 30,000? I just can't believe how many people are looking for home game tickets this year!

The Bison team of 1965 beat Grambling. Grambling was considered a premier team even though they were small college. Grambling had 14 players who went on and had NFL careers.

Exactly. To this point, if the 2 teams played eachother, I would pick the 2013 Bison. If you are comparing their dominance relative to the era they played in, it's not a contest: the 65 team.

Comparing teams from different eras is tough. I'd love to see Stacy Robinson on this team.

Yeah it's really apples to oranges. I didn't have a chance to see the pre '80s teams, but those '83 to '86 teams were pretty special!
