What Happened to the Gold ?

There have been a couple of comments made from other members about the color of the old uniforms...relating to the YouTube movies.

I've been corrected a couple of times when I've written 'green & gold' as the Bison colors. Does anyone know what NDSU's official school colors are?

Being the traditionalist that I am...I liked the dark gold helmets. They were a shade darker than the gold in the uniform.

One more question: Was Babich the one who changed the color?

I would say the uniforms are classified as gold by the school, hence the "Green and Gold" game.

But they certainly are more of a dark yellow, not gold.

I know that the song "Green and the Yellow" is sung at home prior to each game. I hear this question all the time, and I hear a difference answer from everyone.

During the last uniform change (can't remember when, but maybe under Babich), the only thing they really stated was they wanted to move the uniforms a little further away from the Green Bay Packer uniform. I never really saw much of a difference, so I'm assuming the change that CA is talking about goes back before my time.

IMO...the color that we have now is more like Packer 'yellow' or a bright 'gold.' The new design took us completely out of the Packer look, so it's not a big, big deal. If you check out one of the videos from the 80s you'd see what I mean. Then compare it to the Montana game in 2003. It's a pretty big difference.

Gold sounds cooler, but the official school color is "sunflower yellow", hence the uniform change in the mid-to-late 90's. Also debuting at or around that time were tackle twill stitching on the uniforms and the new logo.

Not criticizing...just curious. What were you refering to when you mentioned orange? I went back and looked at those old helmets, and it has almost a tint of orange in it. It's a strange color...but it had a really good effect...at least for the times.
