The polls don't mean much, do they?

I can't understand how Montana can be even ranked in the top twenty.
They lucked out in the last second against Cal Poly.
The refs won a squeaker for them against Cal Davis.
They lucked out again against Central Washington with 1 second left.
But people vote for them.
Weird.

Montana State plays the Gophers close and lost to Kansas State.
The killed the other two teams and they are not even rated.

It is a good thing we have playoffs.

I think you mean UNI University of Northern Iowa, NIU is Northern Illinois University.

NIU is Northern Illinois University of the MAC. We beat them last year.

At the very least, it's meaningless. The coaches poll means a little bit, the rest are of no value.

As a point of clarification, I thought sportswriters and sportcasters like Kolpack and Hansen voted on the SportsNetwork poll? I thought AGS was by fans? Wrong or right?

It will be important to see what happens in the coaches poll which actually has some meaning for the post-season tournament seating. And regardless of how that turns out, the Bison control their own destiny. Win out and all of these polls are meaningless. Seriously, last year the polls were all we had. This year they don't mean squat.

As Earl Solomonson said when the Bison got into the 1985 8 team playoff by sheer luck (and a lot of teams losing) "Making the playoffs means nothing, winning the playoffs means an awful lot".

Actually I'll be most impressed if anyone even remembers they have a team after their two week mid-season layoff. I mean, the Bison are on statewide TV, their football team will be on mothballs and teh hockies start on Sunday. Time for more Military Appreciation Days!
