    Default Deep thoughts, by Tatanka.

OK. So I'm at the Winter Show Rodeo in Valley City this afternoon and the "featured entertainment" is a guy with one arm on a horse, a massive horse trailer, and two trained (full size) BISON. The guy rides around on the horse, up a ramp, and then stands on top of the horse on top of the horse trailer. So I'm thinking, yay, good for the dude with one arm. But then, he gets down, rides around a couple of times, whistles, and the BISON run up the ramp and stop on top of the horse trailer. And then it hits me: if a dude with one arm can get two BISON to run up a ramp onto a horse trailer just by whistling, certainly we can find a way to get a live mascot in teh Fargodome for pre-game.

    Discuss.

Tatanka, or anyone for that matter, what is the reason for no bison at football games?!?

The only thing that comes to my mind is that the Dome Nazi's would consider it too much like a horse, thinking it would poop on the field......

......which we all know would never happen, because all bison have been trained to poop on ladies up north named Sue.....by that same one arm man...

One girl got ran over by the Bison at Colorado years ago. If I remember correctly she fell in front of the Bison as they would run out and lead the Bison onto the field. Chearleader. probably some form of liability concern.

I would say that any liability concerns would likely take care of themselves if the handlers properly keep control and don't do certain things like point the beast at places where people are standing, etc... just keep control. The only prohibitive issues that I see are the logistical aspect (maintaining, support within the FFD, etc.), and trampling poop on the turf in the FFD. They're already stingy enough with the turf - just imagine how much more quickly it would age with a buffalo running around and crapping on it.

Darn good idea, though. Tatanka probably just posted what many have been thinking.

The idea of 'controlling' a Bison is pretty laughable. I think the most you can reasonably hope for is 'influencing.'

Any word on how the wrangler at the wintershow lost that arm in the first place?

We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie

I like the idea of a live mascot but where would Zeke (that's the name I'd push for) go after the initial intro? There's no a lot of room on the sidelines.
