On this day of Thanksgiving, the following letter is why coaches coach. NDSU distance runner Chad Bergan started this 24-hour fundraiser for the homeless when he was competing for the Bison last year and I asked him to send me his thoughts on this year's run held this week. The kids raised about $1,200.
    Hey Jeff,
The run was another huge success. The 24 hours was kind of hectic, most
of us only got about 2 hours of sleep, and the middle of the night runs
were pretty cold this year, but it was all for a good cause so it was
definitely worth it. Trying to run at 4:30 in the morning is definitely a
different feeling then running in the afternoon. You're all stiff and sore
and its tough to get motivated when its pitch black and there's snow
flurries. I can't stress this enough how awesome all my teammates have
been through this whole experience. We certainly played the seniority
card this year because we made the freshmen take some of those a.m. shifts.
Sure this may have been my idea, but if it wasn't for my teammates and
coaches that's exactly what it would have stayed, just an idea. Obviously
the whole point of this is to raise money so the people that truly make
this possible are all the people that donate the money. Chad Bergan

    Way to go guys!!!
