In their CMU Football Game Notes article, the chippewas are bragging that their three losses come at the hands of undefeated teams (including NDSU):

"Unbeaten Opponents
CMU’s three losses this season are to teams with a combined record of 13-0: Kansas (4-0), No. 23 Purdue (5-0) and North Dakota State (4-0). North Dakota State is ranked third in the nation in the Football Championship Subdivision."
