Re: Eli Green --> Transfer Portal

How many head football coaches are there at that university? How many professors? How much revenue is that football program bringing into the athletic department? How much indirect revenue does the...

The student athlete as given a scholarship to be a member of the team for that academic school year (or possibly semester depending on when they transfer). Their role may vary in a given season, but...

They earned that in the season they played. They fulfilled their commitment. If they were prepaid scholarships for the following season I could see paying that back. But that's not how this works.

Re: Eli Green --> Transfer Portal

The money would go back to whoever provided it (i.e. collective). The schools aren't involved in the money itself when it comes to NIL. Again, they provide input on who it should go to. I wonder if...

Re: Eli Green --> Transfer Portal

Theoretically the college isn't involved with NIL money. There is at a minimum conversations between the coaches and NIL funders (collective in our case) to identify the players the Bison want to...

    Re: Bison in the NFL

Trey is a prefect example of the role luck sometimes plays. Opportunity is also key. Sometimes getting the right coach or team at the right time lauches a career. Nothing about sports is prefect....

    Re: Transfer Portal - 2024

I think a certain percentage of those athletes would have not been on scholarship the following year before the portal. They either would have decided to quit due to lack of paying time or other...

    Re: Transfer Portal - 2024

I haven't seen any specific numbers recently but I'm the first couple years of the transfer portal I remember a number around 50% did NOT get a scholarship elsewhere. Some may have gotten walkons or...

    Re: FCS Championship Monday Night?

I don't think it will change it that much. They are only so many who will watch it. It could see a slight bump, but being on ESPN, I don't see it getting to 3 or 4 million. Still like the move...
  10. Re: University of Jamestown to the Great Plains Athletic Conference

The number of scholarships increase. NAIA has fewer restrictions around recruiting so you'll have student athletes that maybe couldn't get accepted so many D2 schools. From a football perspective can...

    Re: Transfer Portal - 2024

I believe this is all taxable income, but I'm not 100% certain. Not sure why it wouldn't be. If you get scholarships that cover not then tuition and fees, that excess is also taxable.

    Re: Transfer Portal - 2024

You are considering Bloomington as Peoria. Although Peoria is only about 30 minutes from BloNo. BloNo is about 170k and Peoria MSA is about 400k. Downtown Chicago is only about 2 hours away.

    Re: Transfer Portal - 2024

Compared to Fargo, Normal is balmy. Yes, they'll get some cold and snow but similar to Indy their normal winter is like the one Fargo had this year. And BloNo is a pretty cool smaller city with a...

Indiana State had a great run this year with a young teen that was returning every starter. They blew a 7 point lead with 3 minutes left in the NIT championship game last Friday. The coach took...

They'll always believe they'll be on the right side of the 50%. The one thing I don't know is how many scholarship athletes did not return the following year with eligibility before the transfer...

Not necessarily. I believe somewhere around 50% of athletes who enter the portal don't get another scholarship somewhere.

Every school is essentially in the same boat. Even the top schools. Right now Louisville basketball has no players remaining from their 23-24 season. Until something is done to curb this, we'll see...

    Re: Elle in the portal

It's exactly why it existed. It was a deterrent. You were still allowed to transfer but there was a cost to doing it. That's why the NCAA didn't want to change it. It's good for the students but bad...

If they were here for the year they were paid, how is that fair or logical? They don't pay back the scholarship they got while attending that school if they transfer.

Not in the same way Butler or George Mason or TCU were. With the exception of a few teams, most schools don't make the Final Four very often. The P6 schools still have talent and depth which is why...

That 11 seed is a P6 team that struggled late (lost 7 of last 9) but then got hot at the right time. And got a couple breaks in the tournament.

    Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??

The success of Nelson, Knecht, Jones (Purdue) is only going to increase the number of players at smaller mid majors to get to transfer to bigger schools. Seems much more impactful in basketball...
