The field is slightly larger than before. How much I am not sure. The fence says 200' down the right and left field lines and 218' in center field.
As of a couple of weeks ago, we knew. Based on his statements, he was the main donor but not the only one.
Future phases include an indoor training facility, a new concessions/bathroom building, landscaping, new entry, and new field lighting.
The next project after they put a basement under the IPF.
To be fair, this was only phase 2 of 3 phases. Final phase next summer. Your mezzanine suggestion is cool, but that would cost millions.

It is not the looks that count. The ability to play more of the early spring schedule is the biggest reason.
This isn't the same as the turf installed on Dacotah Field in 1975!

Phase 2 of the improvements this summer. Field turf to replace the grass is the most important change.
The 551 chair seats are going to make it even better. Also, a new parking lot was built just north of the field.
The completion date is in November.
I was told that construction will begin later this month and be finished in early November. 550 chair back seats will be quite an upgrade from the old aluminum bleachers!
The existing concession/restroom building isn't even functional for restrooms. They do use it for a small concession setup. The location makes it necessary to demolish it first.

Phase I is on the agenda for approval at the SBHE meeting on June 27th. The estimated cost of Phase I is $380,500, of which $364,500 is from private funds.

NDSU is currently advertising for architectural services for the softball complex improvements.
There was an advertisement for bids in today's paper for a new softball grandstand. I haven't seen or heard any details about what they are planning....
That was the old setup. In fact the press box was removed 2 years ago most likely because they thought it might collapse.
Not sure about the new design. Maybe someone should walk by before...
New dugouts are being constructed for the softball team's home at NDSU. Hopefully this is just a first step in bringing that field up to date.
