A friend of a friend who is in the military called his old man who was farming at the time and told him he was watching him live via satellite. Could tell him what color shirt he was wearing, speed, location etc. Not sure if it was a story or not. Creepy.

MAFB B52s flew over our area quite a bit. Was almost common place for many North Dakotans likely!
Sent from Win8 phone on a bullet train from Hillsboro.

While it is true that this technology exists, I would take your friend's claim with a serious grain of salt. Tasking satellites is not as simple as just zipping one over with a joystick to see what's going on someplace - getting satellite imagery of something specific is like getting God to move to a different seat so you can sit down in his place. It would be a little easier with something like a drone though, but I'd still doubt this because it's a crime.
Federal military intelligence assets aren't *supposed* to be used to spy on American citizens - President Reagan restricted such activities with Executive Order 12333, when he established the DoD Intelligence Oversight Program. The military can easily listen in on cellular and chordless phone calls and monitor events from above in real time, but can't legally do so because it's creepy - this is still supposed to be a free county. This is the reason that Joint Task Force 6 (use of federal intelligence assets for counterdrug interdiction in TX and AZ) is such a controversial mission.
I'm sure that your friend might be able to look and see what his dad is doing, but he's an undocumented criminal if he does. If he's bragging about spying on his dad (assuming he's a US citizen), he's a damn fool.
