Re: NDSU Capital Building Requests 2013-2015
Here is what the board came up with for a building priority list for the 2013-2015 biennium:
1 - Mayville $5,800,000 - Old gymnasium replacement and improvements
2 - NDSU $29,600,000 - STEM classroom building
3 - Bottineau - $395,600 - backup generator
4 - UND - $38,500,000 - Medical school addition (at least they didnt pick the $124,000,000 version!)
5 - Bismarck - $40,808,000 - Communications and fine arts center (half from state, half private)
6 - NDSCS - $9,626,452 - Old main renovation
7 - UND - $4,350,000 - Law school renovation
8 - System wide - $10,000,000 - deferred maintenance projects (to be allocated to schools by the board)
9 - Williston - $12,242,478 - Stevens Hall renovation
10 - Mayville - $2,267,000 - drainage improvements
11 - Valley City - $3,636,466 - Vangstad auditorium renovation
12 - Lake Region - $5,947,562 - Erlandson Tech center addition
13 - Williston - $1,800,000 - campus drive
14 - Minot - $1,821,905 - plant services building
A total of $146,276,463 of state money, or in other words about three weeks of oil extraction taxes.

Mayville State goes to the top of the list to renovate a gym is the top priority? Annoys me for some reason. At least were #2 but it's really sad given the state of our buildings that we don't have any other renovation projects while UND once again gets way more cash.
Re: NDSU Capital Building Requests 2013-2015
It's a typical Christmas tree list. Something for everyone. Well except Dickinson State. I guess they decided not to request any new buildings for all those students that don't exist.

well why the hell not? It worked for und all those years...
Oh, wait. Ok. To be fair, those students existed, they just weren't physically located in grand forks.

While NDSU gets screwed over when it comes to per student funding for operations, it is nothing compared to the inequity in building expenditures.
Take that 14 million for Williston State; that's $23000 per FTE student which would be >$50000/student in the last two sessions to build stuff at a school that hasn't seen an increase in enrollment. I guess Bob "higher ed spending is out of control" Skarphol has some serious pull - more than all of Cass County's legislative delegation combined.
Re: NDSU Capital Building Requests 2013-2015
Lake Region wins the prize on this list. Fall of 2011 they had a total of 2,056 students. Of those 1,644 never set foot on campus. The total on campus count was 412.
Re: NDSU Capital Building Requests 2013-2015
To put Williston State's numbers into perspective: It would take a check for $300,000,000 to spend as much at NDSU per student as is being requested for Williston State.

I'm okay with that.

Sorry, I edited my post as you were quoting it. I don't have the numbers for what was dumped into Williston State last session and decided to go with just the newly-proposed spending.
