Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Obviously we all love what Frisco has become, specifically for Bison fans....
But as we are officially in the offseason, its fun to think about What-Ifs.
If for some reason Frisco wasnt an option, where would you want the natty to be? And for the sake of conversation, lets say it cant be in the dallas area, so not at SMU or TCU or whatever.
3 ideas come to my mind right away:
1. Orlando - play at the Orlando FC stadium, its pretty damn nice. Nicer than Toyota IMO
2. Austin TX- play at the Austin FC stadium- this ones even newer and nicer than Orlando stadium
3. Vegas- maybe play at UNLV's old stadium?

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Any place that down south with room for tailgating and pre-game activities and artificial turf on the field.
-
Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
I like Dallas region because its a straight shot South for us, and there's lots of flights there.
The big criteria for me would be a warm location with easy and affordable travel.
Would also prefer to play in a real football stadium rather than these FC fields.
I'd be ok with something like playing at Houston or SMU.
San Diego, California might be fun too.
UNLV the real draw would be Vegas. I think they have CES close to the same time, which could create some conflicts.
I went to CES one year, all the hotels were sold out and prices were peak. It typically draws people from all over the world.

I’ve thought there should be a rotation with a new site every year, and my preference was Orlando, Frisco, and Las Vegas. But since you stipulated it can’t be in the Dallas area, I think the Alamodome in San Antonio would be a good place. Looking at the pictures the lower bowl looks very similar in capacity to Toyota Stadium. They could plan on selling only those, and if there’s enough demand they could open up some of the upper sections.

NDSU in Frisco this year the average age was 70 not even kidding. It was basically all Snow Birds from Arizona/Texas. Every group that I would see at the bars were like "We are orginally from Bismarck, now we live in Pheonix & Drove over"

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Orlando and Vegas are probably the only two places I’d enjoy less than Dallas again. Giant hollow cultureless amusement parks. But whatever. The primary attraction for me is the game anyway and anything else’s is icing on the cake.

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Frisco has the perfect stadium for this game. Just improve the field.
DFW is perfectly situated to support the game with hotels, restaurants, and bars.
Frisco is perfectly located.
Yep... the fan base is getting older. It should be a big area of concern that the student body doesn't attend the games. Are people in their 20s and 30s buying in? Not sure about that.

I've always thought Tulane's stadium would make a decent site...

Sun Devil Stadium - Tempe, AZ. Lots of hotel options, probably more spread out however. Better weather, school @ASU likely not in session yet.

A little surprised they didn't buy up more property and develop the surrounding area.

I vote Vegas for a variety of reasons.
Most of them degenerate.

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Las Vegas or some place in Florida, Louisiana or Arizona. San Diego also. Make it a rotation. On a football field, not soccer. Don’t need to fill the venue. Just need a good time.

So you can gamble away our new stadium funding?
Fuck no bro

Somewhere warm. Orlando would be great. Vegas. Phoenix. San Diego.
I love Frisco, but 12 years or whatever is a long time to do the exact same thing.

What is the contract status on Frisco? Hasn't the bid been placed by the Southland Conference with Frisco? Does that change with the geography of the Southland changing?

It’s mostly fine. They know how not to fuck it up at least, and that shouldn’t be discounted.

Atlanta would be good. Play the game in the Falcons stadium.
Put curtains down to hide upper deck(s)

Presumably they’d be more interested in the game two days later. Tech is right in the city though. And Georgia State has a 26,000 seater where Turner Field used to be.

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
What if we played where the FBS championship game is at on the Saturday before the game? rotates every year. ESPN can work out the kinks for the game Monday.

Who’s that better for?

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Not really on topic for location, but they need to move it back to Friday night (year before ours was Friday night)...that would be awesome. No more of these stupid time slots on Saturday.

You get your rotation of games... better field... better locations...

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
If tailgating isn't important, we could use the lower bowl of US Bank stadium and The Pioneer League (St. Thomas) could be the hosting conference.

We'd be completely overshadowed, hotels, restaurants, bars all increase prices. Travel would be more difficult

40000 Alabama fans pissed off that the 15000 of us drank all their beer before they even got into town…

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Exploria Stadium is really nice...the grass is great. We get a lot of rain, so an inch the day before a game really isn't an issue. Right next to the downtown bar district. Convenient to light rail. Plus that is good fishing season for anyone wanting to snag a few bass or crappie in the St. Johns or blues and grouper from the Atlantic.

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
San Pedro, Belize? There is a pitch there since we're into the soccer fields.

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Boca Raton at FAU's stadium.

I watched some of that bowl game. That would definitely put some people off the idea that the field is bad in Frisco. LOL.

Re: Championship location- if Frisco wasnt an option
Really anywhere which is nice in January. And they must also embrace the championship, if they don't embrace it and make it a fun, inclusive event, then there's no point.
Would also have to be somewhere easy to drive or fly to. Orlando, Phoenix, and Vegas come to mind fast.
