I was surprised to hear that stat, too. My guess is that they usually wind up in different regions where one always lost before they got to the final 4.

I think only once before were they one game away from playing in the tournament, in the 1991 Final Four. UNC was expected to beat Kansas but lost, spoiling a potential matchup in the championship game when Duke upset UNLV later that night.
I think there's been a few times where they were top-2 seeds in regions set up to meet in the national semifinals but one of them would always got upset before the Elite Eight.

Jackrabbit women are in the WNIT semis. Play against UCLA on Thursday at 7pm in Brookings.
Yes, it was; it's the biggest show in Brookings.........however, apparently, the WNIT isn't a big deal in Tuscaloosa, or not a big enough deal for their AD to out bid sdsu.
Pretty sure Alabama could outbid sdsu if'n they wanted to.
Wasn't too long ago that South Dakota women's team won the WNIT and hosted the championship game: https://espnsiouxfalls.com/south-dak...f-coast-71-65/
Seems like if you can sell 5k+ tickets (they had 7,415 at the DakotaDome that day) you're probably able to outbid most anyone for late round WNIT home games.
Aren’t the SDSU women among the national leaders in average attendance? If so makes sense they keep winning bids for home games.
who gives a flying f about girls hoops.
I just slapped $100 to win $615 at Dakota Magic Sportsbook.... UNC & NOVA baby . let's fffff. gooooo
