Goodbye IPFW....Hello PUFW

IPFW will soon be no more.
The Purdue Board of Trustees on Friday approved a resolution to change the name of IPFW to Purdue University Fort Wayne (PUFW).
The naming will take effect with the July 1, 2018 realignment of the university, pending the approval of the state's Higher Learning Commission. According to a press release, the campus will be commonly known as "Purdue Fort Wayne."
In its meeting Friday at IPFW, Purdue trustees said the name was selected in part after feedback from an online survey conducted in February. The survey suggested two new names for the school, Purdue University Fort Wayne and Purdue University Northeast.

Whoever made this marketing decision deserves to be caned, tar and feathered, and then fired. Here's the first thing that comes to mind

Better than PUFU I guess.
New mascot could have been "The Munching Doritos".

Or a mastodon ripping a raunchy fart after eating a crate of Doritos and the crate itself.

Re: Goodbye IPFW....Hello PUFW
The situation with the IU/PU campuses is pretty odd. Effectively, Indiana University is UND to Purdue University's NDSU. IU is the liberal arts/health science school and PU is the land grant.
Both main campuses are also the flagships of their own university systems. In the case of the cites of Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, both university systems set up their own satellite campuses there at different times. It didn't take all that long to realize that having two completely separate, state-run, satellite campuses in the same city was pretty stupid, so the campuses were merged together. That created the Indiana University/Purdue University name.
In the case of IUPUI, Indiana University runs the campus, but some internal schools are affiliated with Purdue. If you get an engineering or science degree from IUPUI, your diploma says Purdue; most everything else it says Indiana U. IUPUI is easily big enough to be it's own school, but it houses IU's med school, so I doubt IU will give it up without a fight.
In the case of IPFW, Purdue runs the campus and programs were affiliated with one school or another on a major by major basis. Some of that is now changing, which has led to the new name. Instead of a unified campus, they are going to break off the health science programs and IU will run those directly. Purdue will run the rest(a full university) as it's own campus. So the IPFW name doesn't work anymore. There have been efforts to give the school independence from both systems, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.
For comparison, SD does a little of the same thing in Sioux Falls. Many of the public SD schools want a presence in SF for obvious reasons, but the state doesn't want a ton of duplication. So they created the University Center campus with SDSU, USD, DSU, BHSU & NSU all offering degrees there(though mostly USD & DSU).

Academia types are completely lost in the world of reality and common sense.
Purdue-Fort Wayne University...athletically known as Fort Wayne
Indiana University-Indianapolis....athletically known as Indianapolis
