Re: NDSU @ Northern Iowa Preview
In the bar in Colorado and some other NDSU fans just came and told me they got a text saying this game will also be cancelled. Seeing nothing on twitter or facebook -- any news?

Re: NDSU @ Northern Iowa Preview

They could be and they could turn out to be completely right at the same time. I would say of all the shit you could throw at the wall right now "The next football game will be called off" has one of the best chances of sticking.

Re: NDSU @ Northern Iowa Preview
Mark Farley is the winningest coach in UNI and Missouri Valley Football History and the 10th coach in FCS history with 150 FCS victories. The win against Youngstown State was his 100th MVFC win.
You see kids if you win 5 games a year for 20 years it makes you somebody.

His teams had at least a share of the conference title 7 out of his first 11 years and this will be the 9th year in a row where they aren't on top of the conference.

They know they're going to get plenty of chances at some Zeb balls.
They have an electric big play receiver which when playing against a team like NDSU with an anemic offense is dangerous because it only takes one play to put seven on the board. If they're successful in hitting him a couple times my question is can our offense keep up. High scoring for our offense is 20 plus points.

For that matter, if we aren't ready for it, we deserve to lose.

Don’t disagree at all. In fact I’ll be surprised if we beat the rabbits.

UNI hasn't passed effectively all year.
If Will McElvain, the season starter plays (he was out with Covid), we won't have much of a threat. He has been very inaccurate downfield. He tortured Iowa State two years ago with his clever running (like getting 17 on 3rd and 16 situations).
If Justin Fomby, the backup, there will be more of a passing threat. He wasn't very effective in his first game, but to be fair, they had something like 24 hours to get him ready.
If I'm head coach for UNI, I would decide if I thought we would be most effective on the ground or in the air, then pick the QB accordingly. However, if history is any indicator, Farley will go with his season starter and try to force his gameplan regardless of where you might be the most likely to be vulnerable. Expect McElvain, a grind-it-out game, hopes for turnovers, and hopes for a last minute UNI score. That's the best, most-likely scenario. Farley hasn't coached a wide open offensive game all season.

UNI is more likely to move the ball on defense (turnovers) than offense! I could see offensive and turnover return yardage being about even. Hopefully not both in single digits!

Well we know Zeb will throw 2 picks... so there's that...

If we had kept playing games I may have agreed with you. With both of us being off for so long who the hell knows. It’s a crapshoot.

I actually think the opposite... we were improving, and some time off hurts us more, I think. Could be wrong and could be convinced otherwise.

I think a long layoff harms them more than us. I could be wrong too though. But that’s like, just my opinion man.

Indeed. Can't wait to see the game played. We are overdue for a big win. The off-season will be so sweet if we can drink some Bison tears. :hide:

Yes, they probably taste better than Panther Piss.

Re: NDSU @ Northern Iowa Preview
Last game, UNI had a lot of luck stretching the field. Weston had 5 receptions with an average of 26ypc. They had 3 other guys with receptions of 15+ yards.

We haven't been very effective this season stretching the field. And certainly not sustaining drives. We have scored more than 21 points only once (Western Illinois).
#80 (Weston) has been the biggest impact receiver. However, keep an eye on #17 (Logan Wolf) as I think he is going to be great at stretching the field. We also have two Tight Ends that can make plays in the middle (#89 Allen and #42 Fourtenbary).
The X-factor is the QB. I don't think we have a chance if #2 (McElvain) is QB because that means we will be focusing on the running game (he doesn't have the accuracy to stretch the field throwing the ball). Our only chance to stretch the field is to have #11 (Fomby) at QB.
On defense, the line gets a lot of attention, but I really like watching #47 (Van Wyhe) and #41 (Cuvelier). They do a great job of playing sideline-to-sideline, as well as filling gaps. If you block them effectively, you will be able to march the ball down field.
