James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
So with the exposure that the title game will bring for the programs involved as well as FCS football in general, these suspensions bring a black eye to the FCS level of football. Can't wait to hear losing team whine because of the suspensions...

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
So............NDSU MAY HAVE lost to a team littered with "super heroes" ?!?!
Fantastic!

I wonder if there will be anything in the Fargo Forum about this. I wonder what that letter writer from yesterday's Forum would think about these suspensions.
With both YSU and JMU having so many suspended players in a championship game that has got to be a first. Say what you will about NDSU, we did not have that problem.
-
Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
WOW!!!!
Our program better not ever have this crap in it. Yes players could be dumb with a DUI or minor stuff but doping or drugs is terrible.

Well.............<SHOCK ALERT>
Nothing in the Forum about it.
Let's check the Harrisonburg newspaper.................OH! The Harrisonburg Daily News Record has the story.

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
So 7 more on top of the 2 that were suspended for the NDSU game? So will we hear the names and reasons in the next few days? Will be interesting to see how many starters. If it is going to be for the same reason as Youngstown maybe they should forfeit their win?

lulz...
driving under the influence and potentially taking a life < taking a couple bong rips and watching Katt Williams....
okie..
with that being said, I would hope our program is refraining from all "illegal" activities...regardless of their nature.

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
Maybe NDSU and EWU should schedule a "clean" FCS championship game for sometime in the next couple weeks.
-
Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
So JMU won't release the names of the 5 other players yet some JMU fans are saying it wouldn't have mattered claiming all players suspended didn't play against NDSU. If they didn't name the players how can they know this? With all that being said I'd honestly not wanted them suspended against NDSU as all it would have done had they lost would have been to give them ammo against NDSU to say we didn't really beat their best team. In fact they deserved to win that game but it does taint it given the now confirmed allegations that were brought up before the NDSU game but poo pooed by most as undocumented or unsubstantiated. Either team that wins the chipper this year will have that shadow over the championship. If they just got caught it's more than likely they had been doing this all year. Would either teams record be the same throughout the year without the cheating? Fair question.

At the "Azteca" in Mexico City! EWU is pry still thawing after Saturday's game!

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
I would refrain from thinking they are cheaters. We don't know what they were flagged for. I would think of them and their coaching/training staff as idiots though because they SHOULD know what will show up on a drug test.

@Bold: Refrain from thinking they are cheaters, yet you imply the coaching and or training staff knew that players were taking/ingesting banned substances, whatever they may be? OK.

Woah woah. I was more referring to them not checking that a supplement had a banned substance or educating their players that they need to get everything checked. I was not suggesting that the coaches knew or supported anything.

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
Maybe JMU's and YSU's suspended players could play the day before in Frisco for some sort of special trophy? Maybe like a pair of golden handcuffs or golden syringe?

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
For those that are perhaps hypothesizing that the substance may have been "just marijuana".....................
http://www.webmd.com/pain-management...esearch-show#1
The first sentence is the key.
Three puffs a day of cannabis, better known as marijuana, helps people with chronic nerve pain due to injury or surgery feel less pain and sleep better, a Canadian team has found.
Additionally, (and this is from my own personal knowledge database) in terms of performance, decreased pain enables a human to: lift more, push harder, etc. Examples of the consequences of this biological effect is well documented. Here are a couple:
a) a weight lifter on steroids lifts more than his/her skeletal frame can support and a fracture occurs.
b) someone on any drug that decreases the body's perception of pain tends to be much more of a handful for law enforcement personnel in an arrest event.

The NCAA banned whatever it was they were using for a reason. You can call it what you want. I call it cheating.

That's alot of faith your putting on the NCAA. Personally, I'm never going to assume that they know what the hell is going on and that they are ever doing the right thing for student athletes.
-
Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
Well at least JMU has a big enough band that could play the game if they don't have enough players left.

Yes, they banned it because it was an illegal drug at the time they banned it and it hasn't been seriously reconsidered since.

I see McFeely has a blog on INFORUM on the 7 JMU players suspension. I do not click, just saw the headlines so at least there is something in the Forum.

Then you don't know what cheating is. If it was a drug that assisted them performance wise it was cheating. Not all drugs whether illegal or not, would help them on the field. Even if their backups were on PEDS their starters still kicked our butts so I don't know why people are acting so desperate for something to come of this.

Nothing that comes of this has much bearing on NDSU's semifinal loss.
It is a bad look for the FCS though when both teams in the finals have so many drug related suspensions.

Agree, it is a bad look. I'd guess almost every FBS bowl team has the same issues though if they were to be tested

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
This just in....the FCS national championship game has been renamed the Lance Armstrong Bowl.

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
Wait..didn't a thread already get locked because people were speculating on this? Well guess it's true!! Egg on face for whoever locked that shit up lol
-
Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
It would appear to me if these allegations are true that the NCAA would strip the team from their wins as what happened to the U of M a few years ago but maybe the punishment wouldn't come u til after the season the NCAA isn't quick moving like the pro leagues

The thing is NDSU has taken pride and noted over and over how having depth has made the starters better. If it is PED's then even the starters are going against bigger faster stronger teammates that they then get to practice against. We say over and over Iron sharpens Iron. Well if you take pot metal give it a hard fake edge that it doesn't usually have it will still sharpen the Iron used against it.
This might not even be PED's and that is part of the point. It should all be laid out in public hiding it just furthers speculation.
maybe it was a banned supplement and some people say its "just a supplement" but I will tell you I have seen some people get some crazy results with what are labeled as supplements. There is a reason NCAA athletes can not just go buy any supplement off the internet and take it.

Yes it did and I was the one who started it from comments made on the JMU board. I get it's a slippery slope on starting threads or allowing them when information isn't available but I think locking the thread was wrong. As you said it turned out to be true.

Then you don't know shit from shinola. If one team is taking something that is banned by the NCAA that allows them to play when they may not have otherwise is cheating. As an example if it was POT and the user(s) taking it did so to alleviate pain during practice or game time where as they otherwise wouldn't have it's cheating. What part about banned don't you understand? It's banned for a reason and that is all that needs to be said.
By the way I said they beat us but who's to say the players that did play weren't some of those that took the banned substances.

It is in their hometown's newspaper for chrissakes!
Certainly worthy of discussion.
I haven't seen anyone on here say with any amount of certainty that its true.

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
Now is the time for the sdsu coach to ask what we are teaching our kids.
Wrong teams but good question

Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
I'd like to see the policy on how many are randomly tested and if there is a point where that sample size is increased. If the initial failures were due to PEDS, I would hope they would further the sample into additional players.
I thought I read earlier that they only test 10 when there was discussion about the Youngstown suspensions.
-
Re: James Madison vs Youngstown State FCS Championship game suspensions
Why not test a week before the playoffs are seeded as well as their regular protocol?

I think that if more than 15% (4/15) test positive you test the whole damn team.
