Murder Case
Twin cities news at 10: All stations lead with NDSU/Sartell student murdered.
Lots of talk about NDSU.
KSTP shocked me when they said. "A person told police to go check that area in Moorhead"
<deleted>
Please keep this as FACT FINDING info only, it's good to have an outlet to discuss facts

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
Was Larry's RV open Monday? Interesting they didn't find him until Tuesday morning if they were open Monday.
-
Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
Well KSTP reported that about "person" telling police to check moorhead that was first that anyone has reported that. So I passed it along sorry.

Although NDSU knows you can't stop this, they have asked everyone not to. Also to respect their privacy. We received many e mails reminding all that there are services available if you need them. I imagine some are effected but don't even know it. This is something positive the u is doing. All I need to know.
Keeping all in your thoughts is the best thing to do.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
No speculation; instead, let's put what law enforcement is looking for out there in case someone comes across it:
Quote:
Police turned to the public Thursday, seeking help in finding Bearson’s left shoe – a white Nike Air Jordan, size 9˝. The shoe was missing from Bearson’s body when he was found dead Tuesday on the lot of Larry’s RV Sales, near 29th Street and 24th Avenue South by Sam’s Club in south Moorhead. Jacobson said Bearson’s right shoe was found at the scene, but would not say whether he was wearing it.
Authorities are also looking for Bearson’s cellphone, a silver-colored iPhone 5. Police released photographs of items similar to the shoe and the phone to assist in locating them.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
The FM community should assist the investigators as much as possible !! Everyone should keep their ears open.
-
Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
If found, phone and shoe should not be touched or moved and area around them should not be disrupted.

I would guess so, UT think it's standard once it crosses state lines but I'm not sure
-
Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
It's eerily silent last couple days, I'm glad the media is honoring the request of silence by family. Keep working police!

I heard the same when state lines are crossed.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
The investigation of NDSU student Bearson's death doesn't seem to be progressing (at least publicly); in some ways it seems to be going the wrong way.
Caution advised one week after discovery of slain NDSU student's body; police still have no answers
Quote:
Fargo Police Chief Keith Ternes told The Forum the day Bearson’s body was discovered that there was no indication the public was at risk.
A week later, Jacobson urged the public to be cautious, ...
So in a week of investigation, by how many law enforcement agencies, the Fargo / NDSU community goes from being told "no indication the public was at risk" to "urged the public to be cautious".
The Red River Valley does not need another "unsolved" situation like NDSCS / Andrew Sadek.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
Some of this could be a ploy to not tip someone off they have a lead. You see this kind of stuff sometimes, "we have no leads" and then the next day 6 people get arrested or something crazy.
-
Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
Kid in my daughter's dorm was beat up at the Loaf n Jug on 12th same weekend that Tom disappeared....we haven't really had this kind of thing on/near campus before; pretty unsettling....

Good point.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
ATF is not involved (reporters mentioned they haven't seen 1 ATF jacket or vehicle out there)
-
Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
FBI is involved/assisting. Jurisdiction is there because state lines were crossed and where the death actually occurred is unknown precisely. This suggests that assailant(s) and victim did not know each other well, if at all.

Could there be a connection?

Sorry, the last sentence was not really connected tightly to first two. To request FBI assistance suggests that the investigation may be too large/significant for local LE to handle properly. The FBI has more resources and broader investigation arena.
I'm speaking generally and somewhat vaguely because I don't won't to speculate on this actual case. That said, it's public record that the FBI is involved.
I'll just leave it at that ...

That makes sense. Thanks.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
Yes FBI has taken over. Please help find this person or this group (gang) If it's a senseless murder with no connections then we should be more pissed off then we are.
CAS. being found 2-3 days later, does this drastically decrease the DNA match/search possibilities ?

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
pretty sure DNA never dies.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
My cousins son was attacked north of chubs and NDSU last summer, 3 guys got out beat the hell out of him. He went to hospital and nothing came out of it. They gotta find the killer or killers of Tom, I hope the fm press keeps the pressure on.

Preserved should last a long long time, but DNA left out to the elements may deteriorate or maybe a better statement would be it would become much tougher to find, but don't think that a couple of days would destroy too much. Some sources etc might blow/wash away.

Because pressure from the press solves cases...

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
We'll public hasn't heard a peep since last Friday from police....so yes pressure would help.
CAS brought up a great point in PM with me. (If anyone wants added to our discussion pm me I'll add you to the string)
at 330-4am in the FM area, I've been out partying then, as some of you have. There are minimal cars out driving, I'm talking maybe 15-20 cars..50 at the most from NDSU area to Larry's RV area... Businesses with security cameras that pick up road views should all be turning over their videos from 3:30am-530am right now or yesterday!
-
Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
He went missing on a Friday but his body wasn't found until Tuesday, right? Have they said when they found him how long they think the body was there at the RV park or when they think he died? I hope the lack of details released means they are working some leads and not that they are stuck.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
Correct mike. We all hope that is the case.
Tony. Question, now that time has passed, funeral is done and many respects have been given to the bearson family. How can we continue a conversation on here, just checking with you. I had 6 people request to be on mine & CAS PM's.... We can definitely keep it private, but part of me thinks if we talk more publically about it, maybe an idea will spark, I mean anything helps as long as no one is interfering with an investigation (which is hard for us to do on a message board)
Or just continue post factual media reports here? (Which have been ZERO since last Friday hence the problem)

I don't want what I have pm'd about to be made public here, Sam. Not being difficult, I just don't.

Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
Oh no CAS. Me neither. Just didn't know where this thread should go. And I'm watching my P's & Q's.
We good.

Look at the title of this thread and there's your answer.
Er, actually maybe I should spell it out. I'm sure people would like to talk about the murder and say what they think happened or what they heard might have happened or what they have heard unofficially from the authorities, but this is not the forum or thread for it. If the police and FBI think that what is in your PM box is the key to solving this case, they would leak it to the press, but they haven't and that should tell you something.

Most of the businesses in that area are far enough from the road that they probably won't have any decent video of the street.
Maybe instead of wasting your time posting this on a forum you could call up the MPD and tell them how to do their job. It would be more productive and I'm sure they would appreciate it.

Not so in downtown Fargo and Moorhead--keeping in mind that there are only so many bridges that can be used to cross the Red. Chances are whoever did this was not necessarily thinking surreptitiousness at the time of crossing over to Moorhead, and that would eliminate outlying bridges. Lots of cameras in downtown Fargo--we know that from the #52 incident, and there are even more now. Heck, if this were Sioux City, we may be checking license plate numbers already, and who knows whether some cameras downtown Fargo are capable of picking up license plate numbers. IOW, if LE is having a difficult time solving this with "traditional" measures, then they need to go outside the box a bit. I wonder if they filmed or kept track of vehicles that drove by Larry's after they announced finding TB's body there?
-
Re: RIP Tom Bearson (part deux )
Get the info to the MPD. It doesn't do much good here. They'll either appreciate the tip or may have covered it already.
