Western Illinois and Rain
It will rain 4 or 5 days between now and kickoff 6pm Saturday night in Macomb. Western Illinois will have a hard time practicing this week. The grass on the field may not be cut. Chance of rain during the game... Muddy, poor footing, slow field.
The Bison have played all games so far this season on turf ... and inside.
What effect do you think the weather and field conditions will have on the game at Macomb ..... a place and team that already gives the Bison fits. ??

Better question is how will the conditions effect WIU if they cant practice? the other question is why dont you think they will find a place to practice?.

Kind of like playing in bookings before their turf. field with a rise that they watered for a week.

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
WIU has turf. The rain is a non factor.

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
Isn’t there like only 1 grass turf field in the league?

I believe it's none now. SDSU was the last to go to turf IIRC.
-
Re: Western Illinois and Rain
I'm more concerned with it being a night game. It's really dark at that place.
-
Re: Western Illinois and Rain
Lol...western has turf, so if it grows thats pretty cool

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
The tailgate lot is paved so we’re good

Small North Dakota high schools have better lighting than that place does, and more fans too.

I believe this is standard issue for night games in Macomb.

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
I am debating making this trip, but the bulldog would probably need to come with (which makes everything more challenging). Does anyone know anything about the Macomb Inn? I see they take dogs.

We? As in you're making the trip?

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
Did you even check a weather report before starting this thread? Everything I've checked says rain Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Then nothing until Saturday night. Low winds. Highs around 50. I swear people just create drama to have drama in their life. And let's say it is raining Saturday. Well guess what? Fargo turned into Seattle suddenly and we have the exact same weather going on right now with 4 outdoor fields the team can practice on. Rain and cold weather has been the norm for over a week now. Sorry for the rant.

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
Unless I am totally wrong WIU will play in the same conditions.

Our coaching staff that has won 3 out of the last 4 national championships knows what they are doing. Besides they play on turf and we practice on turf outside. And it's been raining all week here too. We didn't have a problem playing in the snow and rain at Illinois State last year. Not sure why rain is such a big deal. Both teams have to deal with it.

It's only $5? My beer budget just went up!
Mo State is the only one I remember with a ticket that cheap.

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
Regardless of conditions the Bison need to take care of the ball. If I remember correctly the leathernecks go out of their way to try and strip or punch the ball out at first contact and throughout a tackle. They focus on this so much that if a team takes care of the ball several more yards can be gained on each play.

I wouldn't say we didn't have any problem with the weather at Illinois St. last year. We scored to break up a scoreless game midway through the 3rd qtr and had 15 yards passing the entire game. But, the weather never effected the outcome as we handled it as good or better than the Redbirds. If I remember right there were no passing yards for either team at halftime.

We were so miserable. It was cold and wet. And it was so much fun. I am glad we went.
Dress warm and bring rain gear. Western Illinois will be fun too

NDSU will beat them in the rain, on soggy loose turf or in a desert.
That's just the way roll & rule FCS.
RESPECT for NDSU!

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
For those coming to Macomb, who is in the market for a new cooler? I got one of these at the Marshall's in Columbus where they were just randomly on the shelf. I tried to call them to see if they still had the other two but the kid on the phone was an idiot and didn't know what I was talking about. IF they are still there, they would be around $30. Big IF. I will go there and see for myself tomorrow. Anyone want me to get one for them? They are the wheeled ones with the handle.
Might be there, might not. Will know tomorrow.

Re: Western Illinois and Rain
I should say, there were only two on the shelf last one and someone has already PM'd me for one. I really wish that kid wasn't so stupid so I could figure out how many there were before I went there. Means one more. I might buy them both anyway if they have them and see who wants the last one afterwards if I don't hear back.

Costco was selling them last year.
I must say that is some very interesting merchandising in that picture. Coolers next to the travel shaving kits and other paraphernalia.

The funniest part is you can actually see the Ohio State campus from the front window of that store and the only coolers they had in there were 3 NDSU and the red ones were Wisconsin. Marshalls is full of random crap.
