A good start to upgrading the place.Need to spiff it up if we are gonna keep hosting the Summit league tourney.
Are these going to be ground level or the fancier ones dug into the ground with steps and drains and stuff? I'm not even sure what kind do we have now?
NDSU softball has a big recruiting weekend this weekend with an absolute STAR from Cali coming in.
There was an advertisement for bids in today's paper for a new softball grandstand. I haven't seen or heard any details about what they are planning....
Sweet! Lets get this done and finally make it look like a true division 1 facility! What are the chances they incorporate the dugouts into the grandstand with locker rooms and all like a true ballpark? I just remembered they upgraded the dugouts already didn't they?
I haven't seen any plans. For a non revenue sport like softball, I assume upgrades will be made in phases. I've never been to a game before but I have watched on the web. Do they have restrooms and concessions? I've wanted to make a game or 2 but timing never seems to work out.
NDSU is currently advertising for architectural services for the softball complex improvements.
Absolutely as long you DONATE the money to finance it. Actually if you listened to the presser with the Coach and the Players I think take it as an advantage
to be traveling and coming back practicing inside and then going back outside to play and compete.
That is my impression anyway.
Go Bison, however I think the OKC coaches will be prepared better for NDSU...

Phase I is on the agenda for approval at the SBHE meeting on June 27th. The estimated cost of Phase I is $380,500, of which $364,500 is from private funds.
From the agenda:
Quote:
This project constitutes Phase I and will include new ADA compliant grandstands that will also address safety issues such as railings and uneven walking surfaces, a reconfigured backstop to improve spectator safety, a press box for game announcing via radio and television, demolition of the existing concession/restroom building, and relocation of the irrigation pumps to a pump pit. As long as the bidding climate is advantageous, this phase will also include a new scoreboard/sound system.
Quote:
Future phases will include a visitor’s bullpen, outfield modifications, a new concession/restroom/locker room facility, ticket booth, lighting, material storage area and other site improvements.
I haven't been out there in ages and I'm not familiar with the current setup.. could you explain?
It says they want to demolish the existing concession/restroom building but the new concession/restroom facility is in a future phase. Will there be no concession and restrooms until they move on to future phases?
The existing concession/restroom building isn't even functional for restrooms. They do use it for a small concession setup. The location makes it necessary to demolish it first.
There is a restroom building a short walk to the NW corner of the outdoor track.
Let's hope this gets approved.. The program has earned this upgrade with its past success and the is looking very good for the future. Local high school teams have nicer scoreboards.
Yep. Softball has arguably been our most successful D1 team.
This would
1) help with attendance. It will never be a revenue sport obviously but some games draw a whopping 50 people and looking at the place I can understand why.
2) Could help a little with recruiting. It's amazing how well we have recruited with D2 facilities. When recruits of other sports see crappy facilities, it just reeks small time. Bad impression.
I heard they will be starting improvements Aug 1st.. I hope that's true.
Matt larson was on the Insiders today and talked a bit about the timeline for the new softball complex, phase 1

I was told that construction will begin later this month and be finished in early November. 550 chair back seats will be quite an upgrade from the old aluminum bleachers!
They've started construction today thanks to a tweet from Coach Mueller.

Doubt it will be ready by the fall games but very exciting. Can't wait til spring.
The completion date is in November.
In don't know how to get tweets to show up on your board, but click on the below link for a couple of pictures. Impressive

The 551 chair seats are going to make it even better. Also, a new parking lot was built just north of the field.
Anyone else look at the new softball parking lot and think tailgating overflow?
I'm sure everyone has seen this but here's a story on the new complex.

Anyone have the details on phase 2? If I remember correctly wasn't it for a bullpen, lighting, concessions, locker rooms, and restrooms?

Phase 2 of the improvements this summer. Field turf to replace the grass is the most important change.
From the SBHE agenda:
Quote:
Phase II of the Softball Complex project includes a new outfield fence, removing the sod and installing turf for the outfield, new bull pens, adding a right field grandstand, new batting cages, and various associated site improvements
