Alex Renner (NDSU Track & Field) Thrower
Alex Renner passed the 63 foot mark in the shot put at yesterday's Husker Invite in Lincoln.
He won the event with a throw of 63' 0 1/4". NDSU finished 1,2 3 in the shot with Conrad Schwarzkopf (57' 6 1/4") and Steffan Stroh (57' 4 3/4").
Renner's new NDSU outdoor record is the 7th best throw thus far in the NCAA spring season.
Re: Alex Renner (NDSU Track & Field) Thrower
Hoping for Alex to get the Schlanser Stadium record in the shot put this weekend.
Current best here at NDSU's venue is 63' 1 1/2" by Kyle McKelvey of South Dakota in 2014.
Re: Alex Renner (NDSU Track & Field) Thrower
Renner is really having a great year. Seems like every meet he ups his personal best a little or adds another significant accolade (eg. Drake champion). He has also been consistent in his throws, rarely throwing a dud and that shows he is mastering his technique.
Plenty of reasons to be optimistic going into the NCAAs.
It would be interesting to talk with Renner and find out how much the mental aspect of his 'game' so to speak is part of his success. I have long believed this is a MAJOR part of a track and field athlete doing well.
While this thread is on Renner, the throwers in general have really been doing well. It is a great event for NDSU in the sense that colder weather meets (temperatures in the 50s and 60s) do not affect performances as much they do in the sprints, middle distances, and the jumps. I hope Justin St. Clair stays, realizing he can consistently produce All-Americans here and if he stays he as well as NDSU will almost surely get an eventual national champion. I know $$ can be an issue in retaining good coaches, but being able to be in a position where great things are happening is a greater reward. Coaches have left NDSU for so-called greener pastures and not done as well.
