NDSU Dev. Foundation Nearing Complete Ownership of 1600 Block

The NDSU Development Foundation is one house away from winning the game of Monopoly it's been playing with the 1600 block of University next to campus. No shocker here, sounds like the area would most likely be used for apartments or mixed-use (which NDSU is in desperate need of). Interim President and CEO Keith Bjerke says that if everything progresses as planned, Spring 2016 would probably mark the date at which house demolition takes place to pave the way for whatever construction would follow. Personally I've been looking forward to the day that NDSU is able to expand east for a long time now. Article also comes with a kinda neat graphic that shows which properties the Foundation owns across University from campus.

Yeah, the time is coming. NDSU needs room to expand, sorry that encroaches on the Roosevelt neighborhood but it is what it is. Not sure what these people living next to a major university expected would happen.

Obviously there are long term plans and it's coming to reality.

I know a guy that sold his house in that area a few years ago. The foundation had been offering ever bigger checks over time and they finally wrote one he couldn't turn down. The one guy remaining can probably walk away with enough cash to build his dream home if he's a good talker.
Re: NDSU Dev. Foundation Nearing Complete Ownership of 1600 Block
I think this is great news. I've always felt like the houses on that side of University have always felt a bit out of place anyway. It would be cool to see campus expanded. I just hope it's not some cookie cutter apartment complex that looks out of place. I hope they go the route of mixed commercial and residential. I like the buildings thst have bottom retail and top apartments. Has a good feel to it.
As far as the Roosevelt neighborhood goes? Sorry but the whole neighborhood is full of slum lords with houses converted to rental units. If they really want to fix the neighborhood, find a way to limit rentals or start penalizing slum lords. Besides is replacing ghetto houses with nice apartments really going to hurt a neighborhood? If anything they could be more cared for and could push some of the crime out and ensure its students living there. It's not like we're talking about razing houses in rose creek and replacing then with rentals here.
It sounds like the foundation is over paying so it's not like people are getting screwed over. Seems like the foundation just by over paying is caring about a neglected neighborhood more than the owners.

This can't come soon enough. It would be nice to someday see all property from 12th Street to University in that area be on-campus housing. Both new dorms and apartments with possible retail space mixed in on the main levels.
