Badlands Bowl Notebook: Speed abounds for Montana All-Stars
Quote:
The 22nd annual game between all-stars from Montana and North Dakota kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday at Connor’s Stadium. When they have the ball, (Brady) McChesney and fellow quarterback J.D. Ferris of Dillon will be supported by skill players such as receivers Dalton Daum of Butte, Logan Jones of Glacier, and 1,300-yard rusher Corey Diaz of Missoula Big Sky.
“I like all the athletes we have — the best in Montana,” said McChesney, a Montana State recruit who threw more than 30 touchdown passes last season while leading Glacier (Kalispell) to the Class AA state championship.
Quote:
Daum, a future Montana Grizzly, averaged 14.5 yards per catch in his senior season at Butte.
Glacier’s Jones, who’s headed to MSU, averaged 15.0 yards and caught a AA-best 12 touchdowns.
The Montana All-Stars lead the Badlands Bowl series 15-6. They look to avenge a 25-22 loss last season in Dickinson, N.D.

Naturally, North Dakota’s roster is also decorated with talent. Four will play at the University of North Dakota in the Big Sky Conference, while two have signed to play for four-time defending FCS national champion North Dakota State.
The UND players are WR/DB Carter Blackwell (Dickinson, N.D.), QB Aidan Hartness and WR Tristan Hartness (Fargo, N.D.) and OL/DL Luke Keller (Bismarck, N.D.). WR/RB Ty Brooks and DB Tre Fort, both of Fargo, were members of NDSU’s latest recruiting class.
So, how did the game turn out ?
Montana 40-25
Tre Fort picked off 2 passes for the North Dakota team.

Boschee - Dickinson State recruit - 6' 3" 175 lbs DBQuote:
The more the ball was in the air, the more Cain Boschee and his teammates pounced.
Kalispell Glacier’s Boschee set a Badlands Bowl record with three interceptions in the Montana All-Stars’ 40-25 victory Saturday evening over North Dakota.....
Quote:
One major turning point occurred early in the third quarter when Billings Central linebacker Holden Ryan, blitzing from the edge, pummeled North Dakota quarterback Aidan Hartness into the ground and out of the game.....
.....It was a violent meeting between two future Big Sky Conference rivals: Ryan is headed to the University of Montana and Hartness is bound for the University of North Dakota.
Also looks like a TD pass reception for Tre Fort.....
http://bismarcktribune.com/sports/no...47473da52.htmlQuote:
After Fargo Shanley’s Tre Fort intercepted Ferris, the former Deacons’ standout hauled in a tipped pass from quarterback Chris Kraft of Century and took it to the end zone for a 25-yard score with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter. Fargo North’s Gavin Rook ran for the 2-point conversion to pull the North Dakotans within eight (33-25).
Talent wise it looked pretty competitive. The ND guys made some horrible passes on those interceptions. Fort's interception would have probably been a td if he wouldn't have stepped out of bounds on the 48. That would have probably tied it at 33-33. He looked like the fasted kid on the field. Unfortunately, about the next play, there was another turnover back to Montana.
How did Brooks do? I couldn't find individual game stats
[QUOTE=ZHerd;1015519]Held under a Zenner...ouch! He will soon have Bison Rams in front of him and all will be well[/QUOTE
Did Brooks comein as a RB???? I thought it was Ath.
It was unusual in that Montana ran a spread offense, and North Dakota ran a Wing T offense. The ND head coach was from Davies and so was the QB. In spite of the complete lack of playing in that type of offense, or defending that offense, the ND boys played hard, tackled well and kept themselves in the game. ND just had too many really bad turnovers to take control.
Brooks looked fine out there from what I saw. The QB and receiver were the Hartness brothers from Davies, from what I saw Brooks did not have much of an opportunity on offense. Montana crowded the line pretty well and they were quick on the edge.
Looked at this years' badlands bowl roster and there are 5 guys listed who will become Bison this fall....maybe I can finally win my yearly bet with the ol Columbus Mt coach!!
The game is tonight, I believe at 7 central in Dickinson.
I think you can watch the game on this link.

Montana looks much better so far.
Fuck me....65-0....Montana. Did the damn cheerleaders play for North Dakota???
That's embarrassing. Didnt even score. Worst loss in the series.
How does one lose a football game that badly?
http://bismarcktribune.com/sports/de...20bfae146.html
Summary in the Tribune: North Dakota requested a continuous clock with 5:59 left in THIRD QUARTER? How bad would it have been otherwise?
Montana and North Dakota must not be using the same criteria for picking players for their teams.
I can tell you one thing....Montana is using quite a lot more kids from bigger schools than ND.
Bingo. Along with different criteria, Montana seems to take this game WAY more serious. ND wants to give more kids more opportunities while MT wants to win. Period. I even had a MT fan talk crap to me as I was watching the game. He did just come from the beer garden but.... It's an exhibition... Oh well.
There were several other reasons for this ass whipping but the thing that stuck out to me was the GASF. (TM CAS)
Found team North Dakotas only highlight of the game
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKs7yy4twe0
There is a reason we only had 1 scholarship recruit from the state. Talent pool just isn't as good. Our only player was Zack Willis. Bohmert is a walk on.
Most years the ND team only has 1 or 2 NDSU guys
The last time we won was 2014 and the ND roster had Luke Bacon, Stanley Jones, Eric Bachmeier, Tanner Volson, and Levi Jordheim, all players who have played football for the Bison. We also had Levi Hoiby who is no longer on the team
The 2nd most recent win was 2010 with Ryan Smith, Travis Beck, Esley Thornton, and Zack Johnson from Fargo south
How many D1 and D2 players are on the rosters from each state? I'm assuming everyone is a 1st or 2nd team all state player to qualify for a roster spot?
