Until someone proves it otherwise to me it is always about the money. Some people it isn't but it is rare.

Also, depending on the individual they might be ready to move on to new challenges.

The top ones are in that 1 to 1.75 range if my memory serves me correctly. I would say it the most surefire way to a top shelf P5 program. Say you bring a top 5 defense to the table for 3-4 years straight, with his personality, and the past record of being a highly successful head coach. Right now he is 50 years old. A lot of things could line up pretty quickly for him with the right moves.

Clemson's DC, I'd assume that's the high end.
"Defensive coordinator Brent Venables earned a raise of $275,000, bringing his salary to $1.7 million next season. Venables’ deal was extended a year through 2020."
"Co-offensive coordinators Tony Elliott and Jeff Scott received raises of $175,000, bringing their salaries to $800,000."

I really am not saying he is going anywhere, but you are right. Everyone has a price.

It is the high end as Venables is second I believe. Aranda at LSU is something like 2.5 m a year
Re: Coach Kleiman Contract Extension through 2023
Venables will make 2 million in 2018 with the raise approved by Clemson's Board of Trustees this past February.

I sometimes wonder if there will ever be another Eddie Robinson, John Gagliardi, etc. But it's also on the schools, it would be rare for a school to show that kind of loyalty as well which is probably what drives them to keep moving on.
