The kids that choose KSU or UoI over NDSU recently would have done the same if NDSU was a G5 school.

There's a lot of lower tier bowl games that really have no speak but there are some sneaky ones out there that could be fun. R+L Carriers Bowl comes to mind.

Also consider NDSU just got two verbals at LB. if it fit chappys narrative it would be easy to say NDSU offer was no longer a committable offer

Bowling Green is in Ohio but still not far from Illinois. There is a Bowling Green in Kentucky and it's where Western Kentucky University is located.
