By NFL standards no but when you graduate with no college debt and earn a few hundred grand as a rookie on a practice squad, it's certainly a good start to life.
Once you get an actual full season contract you are good though.. I mean Ben Ellefson made 560k last year and this year it will be more.
As long as they live within their means. The NFL has done a better job of educating players on money after you saw NFL stars go broke in the past. Can't buy family members houses or buy 9 cars until you have fuck you money. That's more reserved for after you've completed your 2nd or 3rd NFL Contract and have actual fuck you money
NFL players as well as all other professional sport folks pay income taxes in whatever state they play, not just the state of residence. Don't know about CA but typically there is credit in your state of residence for taxes paid elsewhere.
