Re: 2019-20 Indoor Season
Payton, Trevor, and Max Otterdahl are all competing in the shot put (in the same flight). The results are not yet posted. (The site that has been assigned to this meet is TERRIBLE. There is no throw by throw marks....only final results once the event is finished)
What a great thing. All 3 of the brothers getting a chance to throw against one another. (Payton is competing for Nike)
Minnesota's Jonathon Tharaldson (Bismarck native) is also in that flight and has the best throw in the nation thus far (67' 3 1/4").
Re: 2019-20 Indoor Season
According to the live results Payton has a current best throw of 21.81 meters. Or 71'6.66"

Those are their seedings marks.
That is his best ever and happened at last season's conference meet.
Re: 2019-20 Indoor Season
Men's SHOT PUT is now final.
1st: Payton Otterdahl: 68' 11 1/4"
3rd: Alex Renner: 64' 8 1/2"
5th: Kristoffer Thomsen: 61' 2 1/4"
6th: Max Otterdahl: 60' 0 1/4"
8th: Trevor Otterdahl: 58' 9 1/2"
9th: Michael Keogan: 58' 1"
10th: Alex Talley: 56' 7 1/2"
11th: Clayton Hannula: 56' 3 3/4"
Hoping that Alex isn't injured. Fouled on his 2nd attempt, and only threw 56' 0" on his 3rd. He went 64' 1 1/4" a couple of months ago. He didn't make the finals today.
Tharaldson was 4th overall and had the top collegian throw of 63 feet even.
Re: 2019-20 Indoor Season
Akealy Moton wins the Women's SHOT PUT with a new PR of 56' 2". She improved over her old best by nearly 10 inches.
With that mark, she sneaks ahead of Shelby Gunnells on the NDSU Indoor all-time list into the #2 spot.
Gunnells finished 2nd behind Moton today throwing 55' 1".

That puts him at #5 all-time and is the second best time in NDSU's D1 era.
His best finish at the ND State meet (Class B) was 5th place. Not bad, but nothing to get excited about.
At NDSU, his first year as a redshirt freshman ran a 4:26 mile. His 4:08 1500m outdoors is about the equivalent. Not bad, but again nothing to get excited about.
His freshman year (eligibility wise); best mile time was 4:18
His sophomore year; best mile time was 4:10. Now things are getting interesting.
His junior year; he runs a 4:08 early in the season.
Really nice progression here. An example of ND talent, underdeveloped in high school. Be a good one to watch. As his confidence grows, maybe we will see a few more big drops in time. Sounds like a good kid to root for.

For sure.
Also, his adjusted time (with the NCAA track size equalization calculation) is posted as 4:04.61 (at the Minnesota meet last weekend).

It is pretty rare that a high school student who runs high 4:20s in the mile in high school, then competes in college and runs under 4:10 down to low 4s. That is a 20+ second improvement, which is huge. Per his high school website, he ran a 4:29.34 1600 meters, which is about a 4:31 mile.
It is because of men and women like this on the Bison T & F teams, I opened a thread on who to watch for. So far, however, no one has posted any entries. There must be a few others besides throwers and Alex who are doing some interesting things.
Re: 2019-20 Indoor Season
Bison Open started last night with the Pentathlon & Heptathlon and smattering on other events.
Alex Talley won the Men's WT establishing a new PR (70' 8 1/2"). That mark ties him for the 9th best throw in the nation thus far and is the top throw in the Summit.
Re: 2019-20 Indoor Season
Amy Herrington PRd in the Women's WT winning the event: 65' 0 1/4".
Summit leader, Maddy Niles, did not compete in the WT. She owns the 6th best throw in the nation thus far. (72' 4 1/2")
