2016 Olympic Trials - NDSU & ND athletes
Maybe we can keep track of what is going on with NDSU and North Dakota athletes in the Olympic Trials.
The lists below come from www.usatf.org. Qualifying times and distances must be from May 1, 2015 to the present.
(Let me know if I missed anyone, I will edit the list and add them)
WOMEN
- Erin Teschuk - NDSU grad (2016), will be competing for Canada in the Steeplechase as best I know.
- Leslie Brost - just checked, Brost, who graduated from NDSU a couple years ago has qualified, has 3rd best pole vault in US over past 14 months
- Amanda Smock - NDSU grad, has 5th best triple jump has qualified for the O.Trials.
- Laura Roesler - Fargo South HS, Oregon, has qualified in the 800m, has 9th best 800m since May 1 last year.
- Jess Lehman - Dickinson HS, U-Minnesota will almost surely make the Heptathlon, though her 6014 points does not meet the automatic standard of 6150 points. She presently as the 12th best heptathlon and the top 18 get admitted.
- Deborah John - NDSU grad (2014) I assume she will be competing for Trinidad and Tobago in the 100m Hurdles.
- Maddie Van Beek - NDSU grad (2015), has qualified in the Steeplechase, has the 18th best steeplechase.
- Sierra Rosenau - NDSU grad (2016), did not make the automatic standard of 54m, but got in b/c she is in the top 24 with the 21st best javelin throw in US over past 14 months at 52.16m
MEN
- Riley Dolezal - NDSU grad, has qualified in the javelin with the 4th best throw.
- Matti Mortimore - Junior at NDSU has qualified in the javelin for Britain.
- Trevor Barry - Dickinson State Univ, asst coach NDSU - I assume he will be high-jumping for the Bahamas, but have not confirmed this.
CLOSE but not IN
- Jake Leingang - Bismarck High School, Oregon, ran 5000m in 13:43 this year. Olympic Trial automatic qualifying standard is 13:28. Qualifiers or top 24 go, Jake won't make it on either count.
- Alex Renner - Threw the shot 62' 4-1/2" (slightly over 19m). This missed the Olympic Qualifying standard of 20.5m, but after additional throwers were let in so that there were 24, the 24th thrower was at 19.44m. Though Renner was not on the usatf.org Olympic Trials List, based on those on it, he would have been about 30th in the nation, so just missing out.

Deborah John news. Wish I would have seen this sooner ...
https://www.gofundme.com/deborah_john
D.John ran 13.24 in 100m Hurdles at NDSU.
Per this site http://live.aws.iaaf.org/athletes/tr...ah-john-251701
she ran 13.07 in April this year. That is a pretty good improvement.
The Olympic qualifying standard - must run in order to get into the Olympics, regardless of whether one has won that race in their own country's Olympic Trials - is 13.00 seconds. Deborah needs to shave off another 7 hundredths of a second to go to Rio.

You are right. I did miss Sierra. I will go back to the original post and fix this as well as the schedule post.
Did not think she was in, probably b/c she had a disappointing NCAA championships.
