Merger of iron range schools

This doesn't really impact athletics, but it will be interesting to see if other states get this idea and try to consolidate schools. North Dakota could probably shutter a few schools and be better for it. Valley City, Dicksinson State and Minot-Bottineau maybe, and offer those professors and programs somewhere else - Bismarck, Williston, Minot State maybe.

I actually graduated from Eveleth-Gilbert in 2007. The Iron Range is a strange place sometimes however it is different from North Dakota in the sense that the range towns and schools are all within a few miles of each other whereas in North Dakota you need to often drive quite a ways to find the next tiny town. The Eveleth, Gilbert, Virginia, Mt. Iron area areas are all probably 4-5 miles away from the next town. Eveleth has a population of around 3600, Gilbert is around 1800, Virginia is around 8500, and Mt. Iron is around 2800.
This school consolidation should have happened 20 years ago. But Eveleth and Virginia have historically been such fierce rivals that it never got any serious consideration. Now with declining enrollment and school buildings approaching 100-120 years old, its time.

I like the high school will be called "Rock Ridge.". Mongo would be happy.

God's country up there. Miss it dearly. Taking a boy scout troop and a 50 mile paddle in the boundary waters this summer.

MN doesn't need to amend their state constitution to do this.
