Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
@theNBACENTRAL
KJ @Kjpistons
Grant Nelson is one of the most interesting prospects in the 2023 NBA Draft. He’s 6’11 but handles and moves like a guard and he’s a really good athlete as well. He’s currently averaging 16/8/2 and 2 blocks a game. He’s also shooting well shooting 51% from the field.
300k VIEWS on his Highlight Video? WHATTT??

Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
I think he's got skills that would translate to the NBA but I don't think he's going to be anywhere near ready to make that jump by this coming draft. He needs to improve his strength and/or his 3-point shot or he'll be an offensive liability in the NBA.
I just hope he's still at NDSU by next fall and not somewhere like Kansas.
-
Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
Saw that yesterday as well. I don't think he goes in the draft in 2023, that was the surprising part, they should've listed him as a 2024 prospect. It wouldn't surprise me if he goes through the draft process to get feedback and such and then returns to school like Abmas did but I doubt he leaves for the draft after this year. Just hoping his return to school is to NDSU and not a P5.

WOW
I agree he has special talent---I think biggest area needs to improve is his outside shot (3's)
Is NDSU the best place for PLAYER DEVELOPMENT or OFFENSIVE DEVELOPMENT----
I think he could play anywhere ---- I know if I was him I'd explore my options
Go through the NBA Draft process and consider a different place to play
I'd miss watching him play because its the ONLY reason I am watching this years team!!!!!
-
Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
He is taking notice of this and will look to make a move to a stronger league. If he does wish him well.
-
Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
Shhhh…dont let others out about him! Dont need a portal steal!
-
Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
They said on the broadcast last night that NBA scouts were in Denver to watch him play, not sure if true or not but wouldn't be surprised. If so they saw the good and the bad, he dominated in the paint and in 1 on 1 situations but also had 3 or 4 really bad turnovers and missed both of his 3's. Talent is obviously there, thinking the advice for him would be to hone his skills for another season.

Well if he wasn't transferring after this year, he probably will now. Can't blame him.

Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
Ya going to be tough to keep him I think especially with NIL. Someone could pay him a million to come to a big time school who knows.
He needs one more year of college to improve his shooting. He needs to get that 3 point percentage up and even his free throw percentage to be a good stretch four.

He needs an offense other than Dave Richman's. When is that experiment going to be done? We've lost all momentum from Miles/Saul...and Dave's team wins enough despite him to keep him around.

Have you watched any of the last 5 games or are you just throwing this out there? Dave's offense is working great for Grant Nelson, wasn't always the case this season but has been for the last few weeks and now NDSU is on a roll.
Grant has NIL deals here, has the Nodak Insurance commercials, has the Shoot 360 deal and I believe one or two others. No he's not making millions but there's a chance with all the recent hype more deals could come his way and be enought to keep him around.

Agree, doesn’t have the strength/physical game for the NBA….yet. He can put the ball on the floor in the Summit league, the NBA would be a different story. Just hope he stays home next year!

He is clearly not NBA ready, but he will be after playing another season. What works in the Summit aint the NBA. He could get drafted now but he would be a low pick and then end up in Europe. If he develops next year he's a high 2nd or low 1st. Even Mike Daum went undrafted and is playing in Italy. Grant isnt at his level yet. He will be

Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
I'd be shocked if Nelson doesn't transfer to a P5 next season. Wish him well whatever he decides to do though I'd like to see him finish here.

I wouldnt. He's set up to be the focal point of our team thats young and improving. Big stats get you noticed. At a P5, he's not going to be "the guy."
Kevin Obanor from ORU transfered to Texas Tech and averaged 10 ppg and 5 rpg wasnt getting him 1st round talks so he returned as a super senior. He's putting up 15 and 5 now, his stock is improving. I think his stock would have been higher if he stuck with ORU and be the guy who took them to the Sweet 16 on his back

Maybe Bisonville sponsors a NIL contract for GN as our spokesperson. We need press, guys, and this is the ticket. Lakes can make the first donation.

Oh I dunno, maybe playing for the home state team that actually recruited him when no high major programs did? Maybe you don't remember but when Grant Nelson committed his only D1 offers were from NDSU and UND. Now he's being ranked in the top 30 NBA draft prospects...but according to a lot of people on here NDSU can't develop talent so obviously he's just done it all by himself

Same Kjpistons twitter account that posted the highlight video that went viral. He has Grant at 30 and Andrew Rohde from St Thomas as an under the radar freshman at 38.
https://twitter.com/Kjpistons/status...6H9NJbnjkUPHSw
Has also brought some attention to Conner Vanover from ORU who we will see in person tomorrow.

That Vanover cat is 7' 5" but only weighs 227. That is one skinny bean pole. He averages just over 12 points/game.

Yes...but a nobody that got a Grant Nelson highlight video over 2 million views which resulted in NBA scouts at the Denver game (according to their broadcast team). Doubt scouts will travel to Fargo for tomorrow nights game but likely to be some in attendance in Tulsa when we play ORU on the road later in the season. Grant, Abmas and Vanover all with pro potential

Yeah the key is to bully him, he doesn't like to be physical, he'd rather stand at the 3pt line and shoot 3's than be physical in the post. At 7'5" only averages 6.7 rebounds a game, has averaged about 4 blocks per game in league play though and 3.5 on the season.

Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
Yeah, I don't mean to be dismissive, but I don't think a random list makes him a top 30 prospect. I'd like to see any list that has him as a top 50 prospect in 23 or 24 first before I'll take his hype seriously.
I do think Nelson is in a prime position to be a 2nd rder by end of next year but he's likely got an uphill battle. I'd be shocked if he truly was a "top 30 2023 prospect" right now

I agree, I've said from the moment that video went viral that he's not a 2023 prospect but definitely should be in 2024. Scouts will turn on the film and see the turnovers and see the 21% from 3 on the season and know he needs at least another year of development but my point was he's come a helluva long way from the 6'8" scrawny kid NDSU offered that nobody else wanted to where he is now.

If you don't think scouts new about Nelson before some Twitter video from a random account, I don't know what to tell you.

They have some similarities. Football is Division 2. The basketball program plays in a Division 2 level conference. Football can't beat SDSU anymore. Basketball has beaten them like once in the last however many tries. Neither program is the best program in their respective conference. Both have coaches who have question marks all over their ability to coach in big games.
Am I missing anything?

Wow, man...........finally; BV has found wolfie's twin........wolfie, you have got competition now for "the biggest fucking asshole poster of the year" award, but it's early.....lots of time yet, Johnny. Wolfie, you're still the leader, but Johnny is clearly rounding the corner and inching up on the inside. Makes a person wonder if wolfie=johnny X. You sound the same, have the same message, and probably swap spit and shower together.

he needs to get that joe mays treatment from kramer this off season or maybe bring bob backlund back put 20-30 pounds on him and hes a legit starter in the NBA reminds me of julious randle also needs to get serious on that 3 point defense its pathetic nobody in the summit league should be popping 3s in his face like mark jacson sez hand down man down!

Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
He needs to put on weight but that is just not easy to do. To me he needs to improve his shooting. The NBA is a shooters league and u can play if u can shoot but he is not there yet. His ball handling skills are excellent and he is really a good athlete as can be seen by his dunks.

Yup... I don't think he's an NBA player unless/until his outside shot improves. Guys with his size/athleticism combo are a dime a dozen in the NBA so he's not going to be able to take guys off the dribble and score like he does in the Summit League without the threat of an outside shot and his 30% 3-point shooting percentage this year is not good enough to generate that threat.

Re: Grant Nelson NBA Draft??
the USD center backed him right down alot last night. really gonna have to improve that area. But we know he can do it
